The Coming Day of the Lord
3 (A)Know this first of all, that (B)in the last days (C)mockers will come with their mocking, (D)following after their own lusts, 4 and saying, “(E)Where is the promise of His (F)coming? For ever since the fathers [a](G)fell asleep, all things continue just as they were (H)from the beginning of creation.” 5 For [b]when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that (I)by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was (J)formed out of water and by water, 6 through which (K)the world at that time was (L)destroyed by being flooded with water. 7 But by His word (M)the present heavens and earth are being reserved for (N)fire, kept for (O)the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.

American Standard Version
3 knowing this first, that [a]in the last days mockers shall come with mockery, walking after their own lusts, 4 and saying, Where is the promise of his [b]coming? for, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they wilfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth compacted out of water and [c]amidst water, by the word of God; 6 by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 but the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been [d]stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
