Jehoram Reigns over Judah

16 Now in the fifth year of (A)Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then the king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah became king. 17 He was (B)thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for (C)the daughter of Ahab became his wife; and he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh. 19 However, Yahweh was not willing to make Judah a ruin, for the sake of David His servant, (D)since He had [a]promised him to give a [b]lamp to him through his sons always.

20 In his days (E)Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah and made a king over themselves. 21 Then Joram crossed over to Zair, and all his chariots with him. And he arose by night and struck the Edomites who were surrounding him and the commanders of the chariots; (F)but [c]his army fled to their tents. 22 (G)So Edom revolted [d]against Judah to this day. Then (H)Libnah revolted at the same time. 23 Now the rest of the acts of Joram and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

Ahaziah Reigns over Judah

24 So Joram slept with his fathers and (I)was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and (J)Ahaziah his son became king in his place.

Judah’s King Jehoram

16 In the fifth year(A) of Israel’s King Joram(B) son of Ahab, Jehoram[a](C) son of Jehoshaphat became king of Judah, replacing his father.[b](D) 17 He was 32 years old when he became king and reigned eight years in Jerusalem.(E) 18 He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for Ahab’s daughter was his wife. He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight.(F) 19 The Lord was unwilling to destroy Judah because of His servant David, since He had promised to give a lamp(G) to David and his sons forever.(H)

20 During Jehoram’s reign, Edom rebelled against Judah’s control and appointed their own king.(I) 21 So Jehoram crossed over to Zair with all his chariots. Then at night he set out to attack the Edomites who had surrounded him and the chariot commanders, but his troops fled to their tents.(J) 22 So Edom is still in rebellion against Judah’s control today. Libnah(K) also rebelled at that time.

23 The rest of the events of Jehoram’s reign, along with all his accomplishments, are written in the Historical Record of Judah’s Kings.(L) 24 Jehoram rested with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and his son Ahaziah became king in his place.(M)
