Elisha Promises Food

Then Elisha said, “Listen to the word of the Lord; this is what the Lord says: ‘(A)About this time tomorrow a [a]measure of fine flour will be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.’” (B)The royal officer on whose hand the king was leaning responded to the man of God and said, “(C)Even if the Lord were to make [b]windows in heaven, could this thing happen?” Then he said, “Behold, you are going to see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat [c]any of it.”

Elisha replied, “Listen to this message from the Lord! This is what the Lord says: By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, six quarts of choice flour will cost only one piece of silver,[a] and twelve quarts of barley grain will cost only one piece of silver.[b]

The officer assisting the king said to the man of God, “That couldn’t happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!”

But Elisha replied, “You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won’t be able to eat any of it!”
