24 Moreover Josiah removed those who had familiar spirits, the wizards, and the teraphim,[a] and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in Yahweh’s house. 25 There was no king like him before him, who turned to Yahweh with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; and there was none like him who arose after him. 26 Notwithstanding, Yahweh didn’t turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger burned against Judah, because of all the provocation with which Manasseh had provoked him. 27 Yahweh said, “I will also remove Judah out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, even Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, ‘My name shall be there.’”

Further Zeal for the Lord

24 In addition, Josiah eradicated the mediums, the spiritists,(A) household idols,(B) images, and all the abhorrent things(C) that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this in order to carry out the words of the law that were written in the book that the priest Hilkiah found in the Lord’s temple.(D) 25 Before him there was no king like him who turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength(E) according to all the law of Moses, and no one like him arose after him.(F)

26 In spite of all that, the Lord did not turn from the fury of his intense burning anger, which burned against Judah because of all the affronts with which Manasseh had angered him.(G) 27 For the Lord had said, “I will also remove Judah from my presence just as I have removed Israel.(H) I will reject this city Jerusalem, that I have chosen, and the temple about which I said, ‘My name will be there.’”(I)
