35 (A)Then it happened that night that the angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when the rest got up early in the morning, behold, all of [a]the 185,000 were [b]dead. 36 So (B)Sennacherib the king of Assyria departed and [c]returned home, and lived at (C)Nineveh. 37 Then it came about, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that [d](D)Adrammelech and Sharezer killed him with the sword; and they escaped to (E)the land of Ararat. And his son (F)Esarhaddon became king in his place.

Defeat and Death of Sennacherib

35 That night the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies!(A) 36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and left. He returned home and lived in Nineveh.(B)

37 One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech(C) and Sharezer struck him down with the sword and escaped to the land of Ararat.(D) Then his son Esar-haddon(E) became king in his place.
