23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel became king in Samaria, and reigned for forty-one years. 24 He did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not abandon all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, into which he misled Israel. 25 (A)He restored the border of Israel from (B)the entrance of Hamath as far as (C)the Sea of the Arabah, in accordance with the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, which He spoke [a]through His servant (D)Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from (E)Gath-hepher. 26 For the (F)Lord saw the misery of Israel, which was very bitter; for (G)there was neither [b]bond nor free spared, nor was there any helper for Israel. 27 Yet the (H)Lord did not say that He would wipe out the name of Israel from under heaven, but He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

Israel’s King Jeroboam

23 In the fifteenth year of Judah’s King Amaziah son of Joash, Jeroboam(A) son of Jehoash[a] became king of Israel in Samaria and reigned 41 years. 24 He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight. He did not turn away from all the sins Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.(B)

25 He restored Israel’s border(C) from Lebo-hamath(D) as far as the Sea of the Arabah,(E) according to the word the Lord, the God of Israel, had spoken through His servant, the prophet Jonah(F) son of Amittai from Gath-hepher.(G) 26 For the Lord saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter.(H) There was no one to help Israel, neither bond nor free. 27 However, the Lord had not said He would blot out the name of Israel under heaven,(I) so He delivered(J) them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Jehoash.[b]

28 The rest of the events of Jeroboam’s reign—along with all his accomplishments, the power he had to wage war, and how he recovered for Israel Damascus(K) and Hamath,(L) which had belonged to Judah[c] —are written in the Historical Record of Israel’s Kings.(M) 29 Jeroboam rested with his fathers, the kings of Israel. His son Zechariah became king in his place.(N)
