Sennacherib’s Defeat and Death
35 That very night the angel of the Lord set out and struck down one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians; when morning dawned, they were all dead bodies.(A) 36 Then King Sennacherib of Assyria left, went home, and lived at Nineveh.(B) 37 As he was worshiping in the house of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer killed him with the sword, and they escaped into the land of Ararat. His son Esar-haddon succeeded him.(C)

35 (A)Then it happened that night that the angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when the rest got up early in the morning, behold, all of [a]the 185,000 were [b]dead. 36 So (B)Sennacherib the king of Assyria departed and [c]returned home, and lived at (C)Nineveh. 37 Then it came about, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that [d](D)Adrammelech and Sharezer killed him with the sword; and they escaped to (E)the land of Ararat. And his son (F)Esarhaddon became king in his place.

New International Version
35 That night the angel of the Lord(A) went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies!(B) 36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew.(C) He returned to Nineveh(D) and stayed there.
37 One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisrok, his sons Adrammelek(E) and Sharezer killed him with the sword,(F) and they escaped to the land of Ararat.(G) And Esarhaddon(H) his son succeeded him as king.
