33 Has the god(A) of any nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria? 34 Where are the gods of Hamath(B) and Arpad?(C) Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivvah? Have they rescued Samaria from my hand? 35 Who of all the gods of these countries has been able to save his land from me? How then can the Lord deliver Jerusalem from my hand?”(D)

And will you be delivered? 12 Did the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my predecessors deliver(A) them—the gods of Gozan,(B) Harran,(C) Rezeph and the people of Eden who were in Tel Assar? 13 Where is the king of Hamath or the king of Arpad? Where are the kings of Lair, Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivvah?”(D)

    ‘Has not Kalno(A) fared like Carchemish?(B)
Is not Hamath(C) like Arpad,(D)
    and Samaria(E) like Damascus?(F)
10 As my hand seized the kingdoms of the idols,(G)
    kingdoms whose images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria—
11 shall I not deal with Jerusalem and her images
    as I dealt with Samaria and her idols?(H)’”

12 When the Lord has finished all his work(I) against Mount Zion(J) and Jerusalem, he will say, “I will punish the king of Assyria(K) for the willful pride(L) of his heart and the haughty look(M) in his eyes. 13 For he says:

“‘By the strength of my hand(N) I have done this,(O)
    and by my wisdom, because I have understanding.
I removed the boundaries of nations,
    I plundered their treasures;(P)
    like a mighty one I subdued[a] their kings.(Q)
14 As one reaches into a nest,(R)
    so my hand reached for the wealth(S) of the nations;
as people gather abandoned eggs,
    so I gathered all the countries;(T)
not one flapped a wing,
    or opened its mouth to chirp.(U)’”
