Walking in Truth and Love

(A)I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father. And now I ask you, dear lady—(B)not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—(C)that we love one another. And (D)this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just (E)as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.

Living in the Truth

I was overjoyed to find some of your[a] children living truthfully, just as the Father has commanded us. Dear lady, I am now requesting of you[b] that we all continue to love one another. It is not as though I am writing to give you[c] a new commandment, but one that we have had from the beginning. And this is what demonstrates[d] love: that we live according to God’s[e] commandments. Just as you[f] have heard from the beginning what he commanded, you[g] must live by it.
