10 And I (A)give my opinion in this matter, for this is profitable for you, who were the first to begin (B)a year ago not only to do this, but also to desire to do it. 11 But now complete [a]doing it also, so that just as there was the (C)readiness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it from what you have. 12 For if the readiness is present, it is acceptable (D)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. 13 For this is not for the relief of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality— 14 at this present time your abundance being a supply for (E)their need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for (F)your need, that there may be equality. 15 As it is written, “(G)He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little had no lack.”

10 I’m giving you my opinion about this. It’s to your advantage to do this, since you not only started to do it last year but you wanted to do it too. 11 Now finish the job as well so that you finish it with as much enthusiasm as you started, given what you can afford. 12 A gift is appreciated because of what a person can afford, not because of what that person can’t afford, if it’s apparent that it’s done willingly. 13 It isn’t that we want others to have financial ease and you financial difficulties, but it’s a matter of equality. 14 At the present moment, your surplus can fill their deficit so that in the future their surplus can fill your deficit. In this way there is equality. 15 As it is written, The one who gathered more didn’t have too much, and the one who gathered less didn’t have too little.[a]
