12 Now when I went to Troas(A) to preach the gospel of Christ(B) and found that the Lord had opened a door(C) for me, 13 I still had no peace of mind,(D) because I did not find my brother Titus(E) there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.(F)

12 Now when I arrived in Troas[a] to proclaim the gospel of Christ, even though the Lord had opened[b] a door of opportunity[c] for me, 13 I had no relief in my spirit,[d] because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them[e] and set out[f] for Macedonia.

- 2 Corinthians 2:12 tn This has been translated as a concessive participle (“even though”). The passive construction (“a door of opportunity had been opened for me by the Lord”) has been converted to an active one in the translation for clarity.
- 2 Corinthians 2:12 tn Grk “a door”; the phrase ἀνοίγω θύραν (anoigō thuran, “to open a door”) is an idiom meaning “to make possible some opportunity” (L&N 71.9).
- 2 Corinthians 2:13 tn Or “I had no peace of mind.”
