The God of Comfort
3 Blessed be(A) the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies(B) and the God of all comfort.(C) 4 He comforts us in all our affliction,[a] so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as the sufferings(D) of Christ(E) overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.(F) 6 If we are afflicted,(G) it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings that we suffer.(H) 7 And our hope(I) for you is firm, because we know that as you share(J) in the sufferings, so you will also share in the comfort.

Thanksgiving for God’s Compassion and Comfort
3 Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in all affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, thus through Christ our comfort overflows also. 6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort that is at work in the patient endurance of the same sufferings that we also suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we[a] know that as you are sharers in the sufferings, so also you will be sharers in the comfort.

Praise to the God of All Comfort
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,(A) the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us(B) in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ,(C) so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation;(D) if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings,(E) so also you share in our comfort.
