Sparing the Church

15 And in this confidence (A)I intended to come to you before, that you might have (B)a second benefit— 16 to pass by way of you to Macedonia, (C)to come again from Macedonia to you, and be helped by you on my way to Judea. 17 Therefore, when I was planning this, did I do it lightly? Or the things I plan, do I plan (D)according to the flesh, that with me there should be Yes, Yes, and No, No? 18 But as God is (E)faithful, our [a]word to you was not Yes and No. 19 For (F)the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, (G)Silvanus, and (H)Timothy—was not Yes and No, (I)but in Him was Yes. 20 (J)For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and (K)has anointed us is God, 22 who (L)also has sealed us and (M)given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

15 And in this confidence I was minded to come first unto you, that ye might have a second [a]benefit; 16 and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and of you to be set forward on my journey unto Judaea. 17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I show fickleness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the yea yea and the nay nay? 18 But as God is faithful, our word toward you is not yea and nay. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you [b]by us, even [c]by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him is yea. 20 For how many soever be the promises of God, in him is the yea: wherefore also through him is the Amen, unto the glory of God through us. 21 Now he that establisheth us with you [d]in Christ, and anointed us, is God; 22 [e]who also sealed us, and gave us the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

15 Because I was confident of this, I wanted to visit you(A) first so that you might benefit twice.(B) 16 I wanted to visit you on my way(C) to Macedonia(D) and to come back to you from Macedonia, and then to have you send me on my way(E) to Judea.(F) 17 Was I fickle when I intended to do this? Or do I make my plans in a worldly manner(G) so that in the same breath I say both “Yes, yes” and “No, no”?

18 But as surely as God is faithful,(H) our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.” 19 For the Son of God,(I) Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me and Silas[a](J) and Timothy(K)—was not “Yes” and “No,” but in him it has always(L) been “Yes.” 20 For no matter how many promises(M) God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen”(N) is spoken by us to the glory of God.(O) 21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm(P) in Christ. He anointed(Q) us, 22 set his seal(R) of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.(S)
