1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God in-relation-to the promise of life in Christ Jesus, 2 to Timothy, beloved child: Grace, mercy, peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
I Give Thanks For Your Sincere Faith, And Remind You To Rekindle The Gift of God In You
3 I have gratitude to God, Whom I have served[a] from my ancestors[b] with a clean conscience, as I have unceasing remembrance concerning you in my prayers by night and by day— 4 yearning to see you, having remembered your tears, in order that I may be filled with joy; 5 having received a reminder of the sincere faith in you which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice. And I am convinced that it is also in you, 6 for which reason I am reminding you to be rekindling[c] the gift of God which is in you through the laying-on of my hands. 7 For God did not give us a spirit of fearfulness[d], but of power and love and a sound-mind[e].
Suffer Hardship With Me For The Gospel. Hold The Teachings In Faith And Love
8 Therefore, do not be[f] ashamed-of the testimony of our Lord nor me His prisoner, but suffer-hardship-with me for the good-news according-to[g] the power of God: 9 the One having saved us and called us with[h] a holy calling, not according-to our works but according to His own purpose and grace— it having been given to us in Christ Jesus before eternal times 10 but now having been revealed through the appearance of our Savior Christ Jesus, He having abolished[i] death and brought-to-light life and immortality through the good-news 11 for which I was appointed a proclaimer and apostle and teacher, 12 for which reason I also am suffering these things. But I am not ashamed, for I know in Whom I have believed and am convinced that He is able to guard my deposit until that day. 13 Be holding the pattern of healthy words which you heard from me in[j] the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard the good deposit through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us.
For Some Have Turned Away From Me. But Not All
15 You know this— that all the ones in[k] Asia turned-away-from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed-of my chain, 17 but having come-to-be in Rome, he sought me diligently and found me. 18 May the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day. And you know very-well how many things he ministered in Ephesus.

1 Paul, apôtre de Jésus Christ, par la volonté de Dieu, pour annoncer la promesse de la vie qui est en Jésus Christ,
2 à Timothée, mon enfant bien-aimé: que la grâce, la miséricorde et la paix te soient données de la part de Dieu le Père et de Jésus Christ notre Seigneur!
3 Je rends grâces à Dieu, que mes ancêtres ont servi, et que je sers avec une conscience pure, de ce que nuit et jour je me souviens continuellement de toi dans mes prières,
4 me rappelant tes larmes, et désirant te voir afin d'être rempli de joie,
5 gardant le souvenir de la foi sincère qui est en toi, qui habita d'abord dans ton aïeule Loïs et dans ta mère Eunice, et qui, j'en suis persuadé, habite aussi en toi.
6 C'est pourquoi je t'exhorte à ranimer le don de Dieu que tu as reçu par l'imposition de mes mains.
7 Car ce n'est pas un esprit de timidité que Dieu nous a donné, mais un esprit de force, d'amour et de sagesse.
8 N'aie donc point honte du témoignage à rendre à notre Seigneur, ni de moi son prisonnier. Mais souffre avec moi pour l'Évangile,
9 par la puissance de Dieu qui nous a sauvés, et nous a adressé une sainte vocation, non à cause de nos oeuvres, mais selon son propre dessein, et selon la grâce qui nous a été donnée en Jésus Christ avant les temps éternels,
10 et qui a été manifestée maintenant par l'apparition de notre Sauveur Jésus Christ, qui a détruit la mort et a mis en évidence la vie et l'immortalité par l'Évangile.
11 C'est pour cet Évangile que j'ai été établi prédicateur et apôtre, chargé d'instruire les païens.
12 Et c'est à cause de cela que je souffre ces choses; mais j'en ai point honte, car je sais en qui j'ai cru, et je suis persuadé qu'il a la puissance de garder mon dépôt jusqu'à ce jour-là.
13 Retiens dans la foi et dans la charité qui est en Jésus Christ le modèle des saines paroles que tu as reçues de moi.
14 Garde le bon dépôt, par le Saint Esprit qui habite en nous.
15 Tu sais que tous ceux qui sont en Asie m'ont abandonné, entre autres Phygelle et Hermogène.
16 Que le Seigneur répande sa miséricorde sur la maison d'Onésiphore, car il m'a souvent consolé, et il n'a pas eu honte de mes chaînes;
17 au contraire, lorsqu'il est venu à Rome, il m'a cherché avec beaucoup d'empressement, et il m'a trouvé.
18 Que le Seigneur lui donne d'obtenir miséricorde auprès du Seigneur en ce jour-là. Tu sais mieux que personne combien de services il m'a rendus à Éphèse.

Thanksgiving
3 I thank God,(G) whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience,(H) as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.(I) 4 Recalling your tears,(J) I long to see you,(K) so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith,(L) which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice(M) and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
Appeal for Loyalty to Paul and the Gospel
6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.(N) 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid,(O) but gives us power,(P) love and self-discipline. 8 So do not be ashamed(Q) of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner.(R) Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel,(S) by the power of God. 9 He has saved(T) us and called(U) us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done(V) but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed(W) through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus,(X) who has destroyed death(Y) and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11 And of this gospel(Z) I was appointed(AA) a herald and an apostle and a teacher.(AB) 12 That is why I am suffering as I am. 13 What you heard from me,(AF) keep(AG) as the pattern(AH) of sound teaching,(AI) with faith and love in Christ Jesus.(AJ) 14 Guard(AK) the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.(AL)

15 You know that everyone in the province of Asia(AM) has deserted me,(AN) including Phygelus and Hermogenes.
16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus,(AO) because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed(AP) of my chains.(AQ) 17 On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he searched hard for me until he found me. 18 May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day!(AR) You know very well in how many ways he helped me(AS) in Ephesus.(AT)
