6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.(A) 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid,(B) but gives us power,(C) love and self-discipline. 8 So do not be ashamed(D) of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner.(E) Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel,(F) by the power of God.

6 Doe daarom je best om de gave die je van God hebt gekregen, verder te ontwikkelen. Die gave heb je gekregen toen ik je de handen oplegde.
7 God heeft ons geen geest van angst gegeven, maar een geest van kracht, liefde en zelfbeheersing. 8 Schaam je dus niet voor je geloof in de Heer. Schaam je ook niet voor mij nu ik gevangen zit vanwege mijn geloof in Hem. Maar wees bereid voor het goede nieuws te lijden. God geeft je daarvoor de kracht.
