Zeichen der letzten Zeit
3 Das eine sollst du noch wissen: In diesen letzten Tagen werden schlimme Zeiten auf uns zukommen. 2 Die Menschen werden nur sich selbst und ihr Geld lieben. Sie werden überheblich und anmaßend sein, Gott verlästern[a] und sich weigern, auf ihre Eltern zu hören. Dank und Ehrfurcht kennen sie nicht. 3 Sie lassen andere im Stich, sind unversöhnlich und verleumden ihre Mitmenschen. Ihr Leben ist ohne Hemmungen, brutal und rücksichtslos. Sie hassen alles Gute, 4 Verräter sind sie, die sich nicht beherrschen können und nur sich selbst für wichtig halten. Nichts als ihr Vergnügen haben sie im Kopf, und Gott ist ihnen völlig gleichgültig. 5 Nach außen tun sie zwar fromm, aber von der Kraft des wirklichen Glaubens wissen sie nichts. Hüte dich vor solchen Menschen!
6 Einige von ihnen legen es darauf an, von den Leuten ins Haus gelassen zu werden, und versuchen dort vor allem gewisse Frauen auf ihre Seite zu ziehen. Diese Frauen sind mit Sünden beladen und werden von allen möglichen Leidenschaften getrieben, 7 sie wollen jederzeit etwas Neues hören, sind aber unfähig, die Wahrheit zu erkennen.
8 So wie die ägyptischen Zauberer Jannes und Jambres sich Mose entgegenstellten, so widersetzen sich diese falschen Lehrer der Wahrheit. Ihre Ansichten sind verdreht und wirr, ihr Glaube hält keiner Prüfung stand. 9 Auf die Dauer werden sie aber ihr Unwesen nicht treiben können. Mit der Zeit wird jeder durchschauen, dass sie ohne Sinn und Verstand sind. Genauso ist es den beiden ägyptischen Zauberern ergangen.
Wer glaubt, muss mit Widerstand rechnen
10 Du aber, Timotheus, bist bei dem geblieben, was ich dich gelehrt habe. Du hast dir mein Leben, mein Ziel, meinen Glauben zum Vorbild genommen, dazu auch meine Geduld, meine Liebe und Ausdauer. 11 Du weißt, welche Verfolgungen und Leiden ich in Antiochia, in Ikonion und Lystra ertragen musste. Wie unerbittlich ist man dort gegen mich vorgegangen! Aber der Herr hat mich aus allen Gefahren gerettet. 12 Tatsächlich muss jeder, der zu Jesus Christus gehört und so leben will, wie es Gott gefällt, mit Verfolgung rechnen. 13 Die Verführer aber und die Betrüger werden sich immer stärker in die Sünde verstricken. Sie verführen andere und werden dabei selbst in die Irre geführt.
14 Darum bitte ich dich: Halte am Glauben fest, so wie du ihn kennen gelernt hast. Von seiner Wahrheit bist du ja überzeugt. Schließlich weißt du genau, wer deine Lehrer waren. 15 Außerdem bist du von frühester Kindheit an mit der Heiligen Schrift vertraut. Sie zeigt dir den Weg zur Rettung, den Glauben an Jesus Christus. 16 Denn die ganze Heilige Schrift ist von Gott eingegeben. Sie soll uns unterweisen; sie hilft uns, unsere Schuld einzusehen, wieder auf den richtigen Weg zu kommen und so zu leben, wie es Gott gefällt. 17 So werden wir reife Christen und als Diener Gottes fähig, in jeder Beziehung Gutes zu tun.

Perilous Times and Perilous Men
3 But know this, that (A)in the last days [a]perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, [b]unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 (B)traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 (C)having a form of godliness but (D)denying its power. And (E)from such people turn away! 6 For (F)of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able (G)to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 (H)Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: (I)men of corrupt minds, (J)disapproved concerning the faith; 9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, (K)as theirs also was.
The Man of God and the Word of God
10 (L)But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me (M)at Antioch, (N)at Iconium, (O)at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And (P)out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yes, and (Q)all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 (R)But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must (S)continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known (T)the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 (U)All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, (V)and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [c]instruction in righteousness, 17 (W)that the man of God may be complete, (X)thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Godlessness in the Last Days
3 But understand this, that (A)in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be (B)lovers of self, (C)lovers of money, (D)proud, (E)arrogant, abusive, (F)disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 (G)heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, (H)not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, (I)swollen with conceit, (J)lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but (K)denying its power. (L)Avoid such people. 6 For among them are (M)those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7 always learning and never able to (N)arrive at a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as (O)Jannes and Jambres (P)opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, (Q)men corrupted in mind and (R)disqualified regarding the faith. 9 But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, (S)as was that of those two men.
All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God
10 (T)You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me (U)at Antioch, (V)at Iconium, and (W)at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet (X)from them all (Y)the Lord rescued me. 12 Indeed, all who desire to (Z)live a godly life in Christ Jesus (AA)will be persecuted, 13 while (AB)evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and (AC)being deceived. 14 But as for you, (AD)continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom[a] you learned it 15 and how (AE)from childhood you have been acquainted with (AF)the sacred writings, (AG)which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 (AH)All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that (AI)the man of God[b] may be complete, (AJ)equipped (AK)for every good work.

3 ·Remember [Know] this! In the last days there will be ·many troubles [L difficult/terrible times], 2 because people will love themselves, love money, ·brag [boast], and be ·proud [arrogant]. They will ·say evil things against others [speak abusively; or blaspheme] and will not obey their parents or be ·thankful [grateful] or be ·the kind of people God wants [holy; pious]. 3 They will not love others, will refuse to ·forgive [reconcile], will ·gossip [slander], and will not control themselves. They will be ·cruel [brutal], will ·hate [L not love] what is good, 4 will ·turn against their friends [be treacherous/traitors], and will ·do foolish things without thinking [be reckless]. They will be conceited, will love pleasure instead of God, 5 ·and will act as if they serve God [L having a form/appearance of godliness/piety] but will ·not have his [or deny his/its] power. ·Stay away from [Avoid] those people. 6 [L For] Some of them ·go [sneak; worm their way; talk their way] into homes and ·get control of [captivate; gain influence over] ·silly [vulnerable; or idle] women who are ·full of [or burdened with (the guilt of)] sin and are ·led [swayed; controlled] by ·many [all kinds of] evil desires. 7 These women are always ·learning [or seeking out] new teachings, but they are never able to ·understand [arrive at] the truth fully. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres were against Moses [C the traditional names (not found in the OT) of the Egyptian magicians who opposed Moses; Ex. 7:11], these people are against the truth. Their ·thinking has been ruined [minds/thoughts are corrupted/depraved], and they ·have failed in trying to follow the faith [or are teaching a counterfeit faith]. 9 But they will not ·be successful in what they do [or get much further], because as with Jannes and Jambres, everyone will see ·that they are foolish [their folly/ignorance].
Obey the Teachings
10 But you have followed what I teach, the way I live, my ·goal [purpose/aim (in life)], faith, patience, and love. ·You know I never give up [L …my endurance]. 11 ·You know how I have been hurt and have suffered […my persecution and suffering], as in Antioch [Acts 13:14–52], Iconium [Acts 14:1–5], and Lystra [Acts 14:6–20]. I have ·suffered [L endured such persecutions], but the Lord ·saved [rescued; delivered] me from all those troubles. 12 [L Indeed; In fact] Everyone who wants to live ·as God desires [in a godly manner], in Christ Jesus, will be persecuted. 13 But people who are evil and ·cheat others [impostors; charlatans] will go from bad to worse. ·They will fool others, but they will also be fooling themselves [L …deceiving and being deceived].
14 But you should continue following the teachings you learned. You ·know [are confident] they are true, ·because you trust those who taught you [L knowing from whom you learned them]. 15 Since you were a ·child [infant] you have known the ·Holy Scriptures [or sacred writings] which are able to make you wise. And that wisdom leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is ·inspired by God [breathed out by God; L God-breathed] and is useful for teaching, for ·showing people what is wrong in their lives [refuting error; rebuking], for correcting faults, and for ·teaching how to live right [training in righteousness]. 17 ·Using the Scriptures, [L …so that] ·the person who serves God [L God’s person] will be ·capable [competent], ·having all that is needed [fully equipped] to do every good work.
