4 Te suplico encarecidamente delante de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, que juzgará a los vivos y a los muertos en su manifestación y en su Reino, 2 que prediques la palabra y que instes a tiempo y fuera de tiempo. Redarguye, reprende, exhorta con toda paciencia y doctrina, 3 pues vendrá tiempo cuando no soportarán la sana doctrina, sino que, teniendo comezón de oír, se amontonarán maestros conforme a sus propias pasiones, 4 y apartarán de la verdad el oído y se volverán a las fábulas. 5 Pero tú sé sobrio en todo, soporta las aflicciones, haz obra de evangelista, cumple tu ministerio.
6 Yo ya estoy próximo a ser sacrificado. El tiempo de mi partida está cercano. 7 He peleado la buena batalla, he acabado la carrera, he guardado la fe. 8 Por lo demás, me está reservada la corona de justicia, la cual me dará el Señor, juez justo, en aquel día; y no sólo a mí, sino también a todos los que aman su venida.

9 Procura venir pronto a verme, 10 porque Demas me ha desamparado, amando este mundo, y se ha ido a Tesalónica. Crescente fue a Galacia, y Tito a Dalmacia. 11 Sólo Lucas está conmigo. Toma a Marcos y tráelo contigo, porque me es útil para el ministerio. 12 A Tíquico lo envié a Éfeso. 13 Trae, cuando vengas, el capote que dejé en Troas en casa de Carpo, y los libros, mayormente los pergaminos.
14 Alejandro el herrero me ha causado muchos males; el Señor le pague conforme a sus hechos. 15 Guárdate tú también de él, pues en gran manera se ha opuesto a nuestras palabras.
16 En mi primera defensa ninguno estuvo a mi lado, sino que todos me desampararon; no les sea tomado esto en cuenta. 17 Pero el Señor estuvo a mi lado y me dio fuerzas, para que por mí fuera cumplida la predicación, y que todos los gentiles oyeran. Así fui librado de la boca del león. 18 Y el Señor me librará de toda obra mala y me preservará para su reino celestial. A él sea gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

Preach the Word
4 (A)I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, (B)who is to judge the living and the dead, and by (C)his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; (D)reprove, rebuke, and (E)exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 (F)For the time is coming when people will not endure (G)sound[a] teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and (H)will turn away from listening to the truth and (I)wander off into myths. 5 But as for you, (J)always be sober-minded, (K)endure suffering, do the work of (L)an evangelist, (M)fulfill your ministry.
6 For (N)I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my (O)departure has come. 7 (P)I have fought the good fight, (Q)I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is (R)laid up for me (S)the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, (T)the righteous judge, will award to me on (U)that day, and not only to me but also to all (V)who have loved his appearing.

Get (AD)Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me for ministry. 12 (AE)Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments. 14 (AF)Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; (AG)the Lord will repay him according to his deeds. 15 Beware of him yourself, for he strongly opposed our message. 16 At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. (AH)May it not be charged against them! 17 But (AI)the Lord stood by me and (AJ)strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and (AK)all the Gentiles might hear it. 4 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead,(A) and in view of his appearing(B) and his kingdom, I give you this charge:(C) 2 Preach(D) the word;(E) be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke(F) and encourage(G)—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.(H) Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.(I) 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.(J) 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship,(K) do the work of an evangelist,(L) discharge all the duties of your ministry.

4 I charge [you] in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, Who is to judge the living and the dead, and by (in the light of) His coming and His kingdom:
2 Herald and preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency [stand by, be at hand and ready], whether the opportunity seems to be favorable or unfavorable. [Whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it is welcome or unwelcome, you as preacher of the Word are to show people in what way their lives are wrong.] And convince them, rebuking and correcting, warning and urging and encouraging them, being unflagging and inexhaustible in patience and teaching.
3 For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, but, having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying], they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold,
4 And will turn aside from hearing the truth and wander off into myths and man-made fictions.
5 As for you, be calm and cool and steady, accept and suffer unflinchingly every hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fully perform all the duties of your ministry.
6 For I am already about to be sacrificed [my life is about to be poured out as a drink offering]; the time of my [spirit’s] release [from the body] is at hand and I will soon go free.
7 I have fought the good (worthy, honorable, and noble) fight, I have finished the race, I have kept (firmly held) the faith.
8 [As to what remains] henceforth there is laid up for me the [victor’s] crown of righteousness [for being right with God and doing right], which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me and recompense me on that [great] day—and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved and yearned for and welcomed His appearing (His return).
9 Make every effort to come to me soon.
10 For Demas has deserted me for love of this present world and has gone to Thessalonica; Crescens [has gone] to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
11 Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very helpful to me for the ministry.
12 Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.
13 [When] you come, bring the cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus, also the books, especially the parchments.
14 Alexander the coppersmith did me great wrongs. The Lord will pay him back for his actions.
15 Beware of him yourself, for he opposed and resisted our message very strongly and exceedingly.
16 At my first trial no one acted in my defense [as my advocate] or took my part or [even] stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them!
17 But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the [Gospel] message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was delivered out of the jaws of the lion.
18 [And indeed] the Lord will certainly deliver and [a]draw me to Himself from every assault of evil. He will preserve and bring me safe unto His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen (so be it).
19 Give my greetings to Prisca and Aquila and to the household of Onesiphorus.
20 Erastus stayed on at Corinth, but Trophimus I left ill at Miletus.
