Carácter de los hombres en los postreros días
3 También debes saber que en los últimos días vendrán tiempos peligrosos, 2 y que habrá hombres amantes de sí mismos, avaros, vanagloriosos, soberbios, blasfemos, desobedientes a los padres, ingratos, impíos, 3 sin afecto natural, implacables, calumniadores, intemperantes, crueles, aborrecedores de lo bueno, 4 traidores, impetuosos, envanecidos, que amarán los deleites más que a Dios, 5 que parecerán muy piadosos, pero negarán la eficacia de la piedad; evítalos. 6 Porque son éstos los que se meten en las casas y cautivan a mujeres débiles y cargadas de pecados, que se dejan llevar por sus malos deseos, 7 que siempre están aprendiendo y nunca pueden llegar al conocimiento de la verdad. 8 Y así como Janes y Jambres se opusieron a Moisés,(A) también estos hombres se oponen a la verdad; su entendimiento está corrompido, y en cuanto a la fe están descalificados. 9 Pero no podrán seguir avanzando, porque su insensatez se hará evidente a todos, como también lo fue la de aquéllos.
10 Pero tú has seguido mi doctrina, conducta, propósito, fe, longanimidad, amor, paciencia, 11 persecuciones y padecimientos, como los que me sobrevinieron en Antioquía,(B) en Iconio(C) y en Listra;(D) persecuciones que he sufrido, y de las cuales me ha librado el Señor. 12 También todos los que quieren vivir piadosamente en Cristo Jesús padecerán persecución; 13 pero los hombres malvados y los engañadores irán de mal en peor: engañarán y serán engañados. 14 Tú, por tu parte, persiste en lo que has aprendido y en lo que te persuadiste, pues sabes de quién has aprendido; 15 tú desde la niñez has conocido las Sagradas Escrituras, las cuales te pueden hacer sabio para la salvación por la fe que es en Cristo Jesús. 16 Toda la Escritura es inspirada por Dios, y útil para enseñar, para redargüir, para corregir, para instruir en justicia, 17 a fin de que el hombre de Dios sea perfecto, enteramente preparado para toda buena obra.

Cómo será todo antes del fin del mundo
3 Debes saber también que en los últimos días, antes de que llegue el fin del mundo, la gente enfrentará muchas dificultades. 2 Habrá gente egoísta, interesada solamente en ganar más y más dinero. También habrá gente orgullosa, que se creerá más importante que los demás. No respetarán a Dios ni obedecerán a sus padres, sino que serán malagradecidos y ofenderán a todos. 3 Serán crueles y violentos, no podrán dominar sus malos deseos, se llenarán de odio, dirán mentiras acerca de los demás, y odiarán todo lo que es bueno. 4 No se podrá confiar en esos orgullosos, porque actuarán sin pensar. En vez de obedecer a Dios, sólo harán lo que les venga en gana. 5 Dirán que aman y respetan a Dios, pero con su conducta demostrarán lo contrario.
No te hagas amigo de esa clase de gente, 6 porque tienen la mala costumbre de meterse en cualquier casa, para engañar a mujeres tontas y pecadoras, que son incapaces de dominar sus malos deseos; 7 siempre están queriendo aprender algo nuevo, pero nunca llegan a entender la verdad. 8-9 Esa clase de gente es enemiga de que se dé a conocer el verdadero mensaje de Dios. Tiene la mente corrompida, y no ha aprendido a confiar en Dios. Pero no seguirá así por mucho tiempo. Todos habrán de darse cuenta de que esa gente es estúpida, como lo eran Janes y Jambrés, los magos que estaban en contra de Moisés.

10 Pero tú, Timoteo, conoces bien mis enseñanzas, mi manera de vivir y de pensar, y sabes cuánto confío en Dios. Tú has visto mi paciencia, mi amor y mi fuerza para soportar las dificultades. 11 Sabes cómo me han maltratado, y cómo he sufrido en las ciudades de Antioquía, Iconio y Listra. Pero el Señor Jesucristo me libró de todo eso. 12 Bien sabemos que todo el que desee vivir obedeciendo a Jesucristo será maltratado. 13 Pero los malvados y los engañadores irán de mal en peor, y engañarán a unos, pero serán engañados por otros.
14 Tú debes seguir creyendo en lo que aprendiste, y que sabes que es la verdad. Después de todo, conoces muy bien a quienes te lo han enseñado. 15 Recuerda que desde niño has leído la Biblia, y que sus enseñanzas pueden hacerte sabio, para que aprendas a confiar más en Jesucristo y así seas salvo. 16 Todo lo que está escrito en la Biblia es el mensaje de Dios, y es útil para enseñar a la gente, para ayudarla y corregirla, y para mostrarle cómo debe vivir. 17 De ese modo, los servidores de Dios estarán completamente entrenados y preparados para hacer el bien.

The Last Days
3 ·Remember [Know] this! In the last days there will be ·many troubles [L difficult/terrible times], 2 because people will love themselves, love money, ·brag [boast], and be ·proud [arrogant]. They will ·say evil things against others [speak abusively; or blaspheme] and will not obey their parents or be ·thankful [grateful] or be ·the kind of people God wants [holy; pious]. 3 They will not love others, will refuse to ·forgive [reconcile], will ·gossip [slander], and will not control themselves. They will be ·cruel [brutal], will ·hate [L not love] what is good, 4 will ·turn against their friends [be treacherous/traitors], and will ·do foolish things without thinking [be reckless]. They will be conceited, will love pleasure instead of God, 5 ·and will act as if they serve God [L having a form/appearance of godliness/piety] but will ·not have his [or deny his/its] power. ·Stay away from [Avoid] those people. 6 [L For] Some of them ·go [sneak; worm their way; talk their way] into homes and ·get control of [captivate; gain influence over] ·silly [vulnerable; or idle] women who are ·full of [or burdened with (the guilt of)] sin and are ·led [swayed; controlled] by ·many [all kinds of] evil desires. 7 These women are always ·learning [or seeking out] new teachings, but they are never able to ·understand [arrive at] the truth fully. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres were against Moses [C the traditional names (not found in the OT) of the Egyptian magicians who opposed Moses; Ex. 7:11], these people are against the truth. Their ·thinking has been ruined [minds/thoughts are corrupted/depraved], and they ·have failed in trying to follow the faith [or are teaching a counterfeit faith]. 9 But they will not ·be successful in what they do [or get much further], because as with Jannes and Jambres, everyone will see ·that they are foolish [their folly/ignorance].
Obey the Teachings
10 But you have followed what I teach, the way I live, my ·goal [purpose/aim (in life)], faith, patience, and love. ·You know I never give up [L …my endurance]. 11 ·You know how I have been hurt and have suffered […my persecution and suffering], as in Antioch [Acts 13:14–52], Iconium [Acts 14:1–5], and Lystra [Acts 14:6–20]. I have ·suffered [L endured such persecutions], but the Lord ·saved [rescued; delivered] me from all those troubles. 12 [L Indeed; In fact] Everyone who wants to live ·as God desires [in a godly manner], in Christ Jesus, will be persecuted. 13 But people who are evil and ·cheat others [impostors; charlatans] will go from bad to worse. ·They will fool others, but they will also be fooling themselves [L …deceiving and being deceived].
14 But you should continue following the teachings you learned. You ·know [are confident] they are true, ·because you trust those who taught you [L knowing from whom you learned them]. 15 Since you were a ·child [infant] you have known the ·Holy Scriptures [or sacred writings] which are able to make you wise. And that wisdom leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is ·inspired by God [breathed out by God; L God-breathed] and is useful for teaching, for ·showing people what is wrong in their lives [refuting error; rebuking], for correcting faults, and for ·teaching how to live right [training in righteousness]. 17 ·Using the Scriptures, [L …so that] ·the person who serves God [L God’s person] will be ·capable [competent], ·having all that is needed [fully equipped] to do every good work.
