Salutación
1 Pablo, apóstol de Jesucristo por la voluntad de Dios, según la promesa de la vida que es en Cristo Jesús, 2 a Timoteo,(A) amado hijo: Gracia, misericordia y paz, de Dios Padre y de Jesucristo nuestro Señor.
Testificando de Cristo
3 Doy gracias a Dios, al cual sirvo desde mis mayores con limpia conciencia, de que sin cesar me acuerdo de ti en mis oraciones noche y día; 4 deseando verte, al acordarme de tus lágrimas, para llenarme de gozo; 5 trayendo a la memoria la fe no fingida que hay en ti, la cual habitó primero en tu abuela Loida, y en tu madre(B) Eunice, y estoy seguro que en ti también. 6 Por lo cual te aconsejo que avives el fuego del don de Dios que está en ti por la imposición de mis manos. 7 Porque no nos ha dado Dios espíritu de cobardía, sino de poder, de amor y de dominio propio.
8 Por tanto, no te avergüences de dar testimonio de nuestro Señor, ni de mí, preso suyo, sino participa de las aflicciones por el evangelio según el poder de Dios, 9 quien nos salvó y llamó con llamamiento santo, no conforme a nuestras obras, sino según el propósito suyo y la gracia que nos fue dada en Cristo Jesús antes de los tiempos de los siglos, 10 pero que ahora ha sido manifestada por la aparición de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo, el cual quitó la muerte y sacó a luz la vida y la inmortalidad por el evangelio, 11 del cual yo fui constituido predicador, apóstol y maestro de los gentiles.(C) 12 Por lo cual asimismo padezco esto; pero no me avergüenzo, porque yo sé a quién he creído, y estoy seguro que es poderoso para guardar mi depósito para aquel día. 13 Retén la forma de las sanas palabras que de mí oíste, en la fe y amor que es en Cristo Jesús. 14 Guarda el buen depósito por el Espíritu Santo que mora en nosotros.
15 Ya sabes esto, que me abandonaron todos los que están en Asia, de los cuales son Figelo y Hermógenes. 16 Tenga el Señor misericordia de la casa de Onesíforo, porque muchas veces me confortó, y no se avergonzó de mis cadenas, 17 sino que cuando estuvo en Roma, me buscó solícitamente y me halló. 18 Concédale el Señor que halle misericordia cerca del Señor en aquel día. Y cuánto nos ayudó en Éfeso, tú lo sabes mejor.

3 I thank God,(G) whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience,(H) as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.(I) 4 Recalling your tears,(J) I long to see you,(K) so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith,(L) which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice(M) and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
Appeal for Loyalty to Paul and the Gospel
6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.(N) 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid,(O) but gives us power,(P) love and self-discipline. 8 So do not be ashamed(Q) of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner.(R) Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel,(S) by the power of God. 9 He has saved(T) us and called(U) us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done(V) but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed(W) through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus,(X) who has destroyed death(Y) and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11 And of this gospel(Z) I was appointed(AA) a herald and an apostle and a teacher.(AB) 12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame,(AC) because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard(AD) what I have entrusted to him until that day.(AE)
13 What you heard from me,(AF) keep(AG) as the pattern(AH) of sound teaching,(AI) with faith and love in Christ Jesus.(AJ) 14 Guard(AK) the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.(AL)

2 a mi querido hijo Timoteo:
Que Dios el Padre y Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor te concedan gracia, misericordia y paz.
Exhortación a la fidelidad
3 Al recordarte de día y de noche en mis oraciones, siempre doy gracias a Dios, a quien sirvo con una conciencia limpia como lo hicieron mis antepasados. 4 Y, al acordarme de tus lágrimas, anhelo verte para llenarme de alegría. 5 Traigo a la memoria tu fe sincera, la cual animó primero a tu abuela Loida y a tu madre Eunice, y ahora te anima a ti. De eso estoy convencido. 6 Por eso te recomiendo que avives la llama del don de Dios que recibiste cuando te impuse las manos. 7 Pues Dios no nos ha dado un espíritu de timidez, sino de poder, de amor y de dominio propio.
8 Así que no te avergüences de dar testimonio de nuestro Señor, ni tampoco de mí, que por su causa estoy prisionero. Al contrario, tú también, con el poder de Dios, debes soportar sufrimientos por el evangelio. 9 Pues Dios nos salvó y nos llamó a una vida santa, no por nuestras propias obras, sino por su propia determinación y gracia. Nos concedió este favor en Cristo Jesús antes del comienzo del tiempo; 10 y ahora lo ha revelado con la venida de nuestro Salvador Cristo Jesús, quien destruyó la muerte y sacó a la luz la vida incorruptible mediante el evangelio. 11 De este evangelio he sido yo designado heraldo, apóstol y maestro. 12 Por ese motivo padezco estos sufrimientos. Pero no me avergüenzo, porque sé en quién he creído, y estoy seguro de que tiene poder para guardar hasta aquel día lo que le he confiado.[a]
13 Con fe y amor en Cristo Jesús, sigue el ejemplo de la sana doctrina que aprendiste de mí. 14 Con el poder del Espíritu Santo que vive en nosotros, cuida la preciosa enseñanza[b] que se te ha confiado.
15 Ya sabes que todos los de la provincia de Asia me han abandonado, incluso Figelo y Hermógenes.
16 Que el Señor le conceda misericordia a la familia de Onesíforo, porque muchas veces me dio ánimo y no se avergonzó de mis cadenas. 17 Al contrario, cuando estuvo en Roma me buscó sin descanso hasta encontrarme. 18 Que el Señor le conceda hallar misericordia divina en aquel día. Tú conoces muy bien los muchos servicios que me prestó en Éfeso.

2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

16 The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
17 But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
18 The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
