^5 (A)having a form of godliness but ^(B)denying its power. And ^(C)from such people turn away!

¹³ Therefore the Lord said:

¹⁶ They profess to ^(A)know God, but ^(B)in works they deny Him, being ^[a]abominable, disobedient, ^(C)and disqualified for every good work.

²⁷ “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! ^(A)For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. ²⁸ Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

⁸ But if anyone does not provide for his own, ^(A)and especially for those of his household, ^(B)he has denied the faith ^(C)and is worse than an unbeliever.

²⁰ an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, ^(A)having the form of knowledge and truth in the law. ^21 (B)You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? ²² You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, ^(C)do you rob temples? ²³ You who ^(D)make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law? ²⁴ For ^(E)“the name of God is ^(F)blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written.

Hearing and Not Doing

³⁰ “As for you, son of man, the children of your people are talking about you beside the walls and in the doors of the houses; and they ^(A)speak to one another, everyone saying to his brother, ‘Please come and hear what the word is that comes from the Lord.’ ³¹ So ^(B)they come to you as people do, they ^(C)sit before you as My people, and they ^(D)hear your words, but they do not do them; ^(E)for with their mouth they show much love, but ^(F)their hearts pursue their own gain. ³² Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do ^(G)not do them.
