But understand this, that (A)in the last days there will come times of difficulty.

Some Will Depart from the Faith

Now (A)the Spirit expressly says that (B)in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to (C)deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of (D)liars whose consciences are seared, (E)who forbid marriage and (F)require abstinence from foods (G)that God created (H)to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

(A)Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, (B)unless the rebellion comes first, and (C)the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed, (D)the son of destruction,[b] who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, (E)proclaiming himself to be God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. For (F)the mystery of lawlessness (G)is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. And then (H)the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus (I)will kill with (J)the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by (K)the appearance of his coming. The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan (L)with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for (M)those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 Therefore (N)God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe (O)what is false, 12 in order that all may be condemned (P)who did not believe the truth but (Q)had pleasure in unrighteousness.

The Seventh Seal and the Golden Censer

When the Lamb opened (A)the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. Then I saw the seven angels (B)who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. And another angel came and stood (C)at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with (D)the prayers of all the saints on (E)the golden altar before the throne, and (F)the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. Then the angel took the censer and (G)filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and (H)there were peals of (I)thunder, rumblings,[a] flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

The Seven Trumpets

Now the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.

The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed (J)hail and (K)fire, mixed with blood, and these were thrown upon the earth. And a (L)third of the earth was burned up, and a third of (M)the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.

The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like (N)a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea (O)became blood. A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of (P)the ships were destroyed.

10 The third angel blew his trumpet, and (Q)a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on (R)the springs of water. 11 The name of the star is Wormwood.[b] A third of the waters (S)became wormwood, and many people died from the water, (T)because it had been made bitter.

12 The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of (U)the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light might be darkened, and a third of the day might be kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night.

13 Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice as it flew directly overhead, (V)“Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!”

36 “And the king shall (A)do as he wills. (B)He shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god, (C)and shall speak astonishing things against (D)the God of gods. (E)He shall prosper (F)till the indignation is accomplished; for what is decreed shall be done. 37 He shall pay no attention to the gods of his fathers, or to the one beloved by women. He shall not pay attention to any other god, for (G)he shall magnify himself above all. 38 He shall honor the god of fortresses instead of these. A god whom his fathers did not know he shall honor (H)with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts. 39 He shall deal with the strongest fortresses with the help of a foreign god. Those who acknowledge him he shall load with honor. He shall make them rulers over many and (I)shall divide the land for a price.[a]

40 (J)“At the time of the end, the king of the south shall attack[b] him, but the king of the north shall rush upon him (K)like a whirlwind, with chariots and horsemen, and with many ships. And he shall come into countries and (L)shall overflow and pass through. 41 He shall come into (M)the glorious land. And tens of thousands shall fall, but these shall be delivered out of his hand: (N)Edom and (O)Moab and the main part of the (P)Ammonites. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 He shall become ruler of the treasures of gold and of silver, and all the precious things of Egypt, and the (Q)Libyans and the (R)Cushites shall follow in his train. 44 But news from the east and the north shall alarm him, and he shall go out with great fury to destroy and devote many to destruction. 45 And he shall pitch his palatial tents between the sea and the glorious holy mountain. Yet he shall come to his end, with none to help him.

The Time of the End

12 “At that time shall arise (S)Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And (T)there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, (U)everyone whose name shall be found written in the book.

Then (A)the goat (B)became exceedingly great, but when he was strong, the great horn was broken, and instead of it there came up four (C)conspicuous horns toward (D)the four winds of heaven.

Out of one of them came (E)a little horn, which grew exceedingly great toward (F)the south, toward the east, and toward (G)the glorious land. 10 (H)It grew great, (I)even to the host of heaven. And some of the host (J)and some[a] of (K)the stars it threw down to the ground and (L)trampled on them. 11 (M)It became great, even as great as (N)the Prince of the host. (O)And the regular burnt offering was taken away from him, and the place of his sanctuary was overthrown. 12 And a host will be given over to it together with the regular burnt offering because of transgression,[b] and it will throw truth to the ground, and (P)it will act and prosper. 13 Then I heard (Q)a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to the one who spoke, (R)“For how long is the vision concerning the regular burnt offering, (S)the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and host to be trampled underfoot?” 14 And he said to me,[c] “For 2,300 (T)evenings and mornings. Then the sanctuary shall be restored to its rightful state.”
