Request for Prayer
3 As for other matters, brothers and sisters,(A) pray for us(B) that the message of the Lord(C) may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.(D) 2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people,(E) for not everyone has faith. 3 But the Lord is faithful,(F) and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.(G) 4 We have confidence(H) in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts(I) into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.
Warning Against Idleness
6 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,(J) we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from(K) every believer who is idle and disruptive(L) and does not live according to the teaching[a] you received from us.(M) 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example.(N) We were not idle when we were with you, 8 nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked(O) night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help,(P) but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate.(Q) 10 For even when we were with you,(R) we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work(S) shall not eat.”
11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.(T) 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ(U) to settle down and earn the food they eat.(V) 13 And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.(W)
14 Take special note of anyone who does not obey our instruction in this letter. Do not associate with them,(X) in order that they may feel ashamed.(Y) 15 Yet do not regard them as an enemy, but warn them as you would a fellow believer.(Z)
Final Greetings
16 Now may the Lord of peace(AA) himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.(AB)
17 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand,(AC) which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write.
18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.(AD)

우리를 위해 기도하라
3 끝으로, 형제자매 여러분, 우리를 위하여 기도해 주십시오. 주님의 말씀이 여러분 가운데서처럼, 다른 모든 곳에서도 빨리 퍼져나가서 영광을 받게 되도록 기도해 주십시오. 2 그리고 우리가 불의하고 악한 사람들에게서 풀려나도록 기도해 주십시오. 모든 사람이 다 믿음을 갖고 있지는 않습니다.
3 그러나 주님은 신실하신 분이므로, 여러분을 굳세게 하시고, 악한 자로부터 지켜 주실 것입니다. 4 우리는 주 안에서 확실히 믿습니다. 곧 여러분이, 우리가 명령한 것을 지금도 실천하고 있고 앞으로도 실천하리라는 것입니다. 5 주께서 여러분의 마음을 이끌어 주셔서, 여러분이 하나님을 사랑하게 되고, 그리스도의 인내심을 가지게 되기를 바랍니다.
일해야 할 의무
6 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 형제자매 여러분에게 명합니다. 게으르게 살며 우리에게서 받은 전통을 따르지 않는 모든 형제자매를 멀리하십시오. 7 우리를 어떻게 본받아야 하는지 여러분 자신이 잘 알고 있습니다. 우리가 여러분과 함께 있을 때에, 우리는 무책임하게 처신하지 않았습니다. 8 우리는 누구에게서도 값을 치르지 않고 거저 양식을 얻어먹은 일이 없습니다. 오히려 우리는 여러분에게 짐이 되지 않으려고 수고하고 고생하면서 밤낮으로 일하였습니다. 9 우리가 그렇게 한 것은, 우리에게 권리가 없어서가 아니라, 여러분도 우리를 본받아 그렇게 살게 하려는 것이었습니다. 10 그래서 우리가 여러분과 함께 있을 때에 “일하기 싫은 사람은 먹지도 마라.” 고 명하였던 것입니다.
11 그런데 우리가 들으니, 여러분 가운데 게으르게 살면서 자기 일을 하느라고 바쁜 것이 아니라, 쓸데없이 남의 일에 참견하느라고 바쁜 사람들이 있다고 합니다. 12 주 예수 그리스도 안에서 그 사람들에게 명령하고 권고합니다. 조용히 일하여, 자기가 먹을 것을 벌어서 먹도록 하십시오. 13 그리고 형제자매 여러분, 여러분은 좋은 일을 하다가 낙심하지 마십시오.
14 우리가 이 편지에 써 보내는 말을 듣지 않는 사람이 있다면, 그 사람을 특별히 눈여겨보고 그와 사귀지 마십시오. 그리하여 그 사람이 부끄러움을 느끼게 하십시오. 15 그러나 그 사람을 원수로 대하지 말고, 형제로서 따뜻하게 타이르십시오.
끝맺는 말
16 평화의 주께서 친히, 언제나 어느 모양으로나 여러분에게 평화를 주시기 바랍니다. 주께서 여러분 모두와 함께하시기를 바랍니다.
17 나 바울이 내 손으로 직접 이 인사말을 씁니다. 이것은 내 모든 편지를 가려내는 표입니다. 이것이 내가 편지를 쓰는 방식입니다.
