The Judgment at Christ's Coming

⁵ This is ^(A)evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be ^(B)considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— ⁶ since indeed God considers it ^(C)just ^(D)to repay with affliction those who afflict you, ⁷ and to grant ^(E)relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when ^(F)the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven ^(G)with his mighty angels ^8 (H)in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those ^(I)who do not know God and on those who ^(J)do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. ⁹ They will suffer the punishment of ^(K)eternal destruction, ^(L)away from^[a] the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, ^10 (M)when he comes on ^(N)that day ^(O)to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our ^(P)testimony to you ^(Q)was believed. ¹¹ To this end we ^(R)always pray for you, that our God may ^(S)make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every ^(T)work of faith by his power, ¹² so that the name of our Lord Jesus ^(U)may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁸ Henceforth there is ^(A)laid up for me ^(B)the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, ^(C)the righteous judge, will award to me on ^(D)that day, and not only to me but also to all ^(E)who have loved his appearing.

⁶ In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by ^(A)various trials, ⁷ so that ^(B)the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes ^(C)though it is tested by ^(D)fire—may be found to result in ^(E)praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Children of God

²⁸ And now, little children, abide in him, so that ^(A)when he appears ^(B)we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his ^(C)coming.
