² and ^(A)that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For ^(B)not all have faith.

³ And even ^(A)if our gospel is veiled, ^(B)it is veiled to ^(C)those who are perishing. ⁴ In their case ^(D)the god of this world ^(E)has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing ^(F)the light of ^(G)the gospel of the glory of Christ, ^(H)who is the image of God.

^31 (A)that I may be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea, and that ^(B)my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints,

⁸ For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers,^[a] of ^(A)the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. ⁹ Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us ^(B)rely not on ourselves ^(C)but on God ^(D)who raises the dead. ^10 (E)He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. ^(F)On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.

¹⁶ But ^(A)they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, ^(B)“Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?”

²⁴ And ^(A)some were convinced by what he said, but others disbelieved.

¹⁸ because we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, again and again—but Satan ^(A)hindered us.

³² What do I gain if, humanly speaking, ^(A)I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, ^(B)“Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”
