Guds löfte till David
7 När kungen satt i sitt hus, sedan Herren hade givit honom ro för alla hans fiender runt omkring, 2 sade han till profeten Natan: "Se, jag bor i ett hus av cederträ, medan Guds ark bor i ett tält." 3 Natan sade till kungen: "Gå och gör allt som ligger på ditt hjärta, ty Herren är med dig."
4 Men den natten kom Herrens ord till Natan: 5 "Gå och säg till min tjänare David: Så säger Herren: Skulle du bygga mig ett hus att bo i? 6 Jag har inte bott i något hus från den dag då jag förde Israels barn upp ur Egypten, ända till denna dag, utan jag har flyttat omkring i ett tält, i ett tabernakel. 7 Har jag någonsin, var jag än flyttade omkring med alla Israels barn, talat och sagt så till någon enda inom Israels stammar, någon som jag förordnat till herde för mitt folk Israel: Varför har ni inte byggt mig ett hus av cederträ? 8 Nu skall du säga så till min tjänare David: Så säger Herren Sebaot: Det var jag som hämtade dig från betesmarken där du följde fåren, för att du skulle bli furste över mitt folk Israel. 9 Jag har varit med dig på alla dina vägar och utrotat alla dina fiender för dig och jag skall göra dig ett stort namn, likt de största namnen på jorden. 10 Jag skall bereda en plats åt mitt folk Israel och plantera det, så att det får bo kvar där utan att vidare oroas. Onda människor skall inte mer förtrycka det, som det skedde förr, 11 alltifrån den dag då jag satte domare över mitt folk Israel. Jag skall låta dig få ro för alla dina fiender.
Nu förkunnar Herren för dig att Herren skall bygga ett hus åt dig. 12 När din tid är ute och du vilar hos dina fäder, skall jag efter dig upphöja den avkomling som skall utgå ur ditt liv, och jag skall befästa hans kungadöme. 13 Han skall bygga ett hus åt mitt namn, och jag skall befästa hans kungatron för evigt. 14 Jag skall vara hans fader och han skall vara min son. Om han gör något orättfärdigt skall jag straffa honom med ris, så som människor brukar, och med plågor som drabbar människors barn. 15 Men min nåd skall inte vika från honom, så som jag lät den vika från Saul, som jag lät vika för dig. 16 Ditt hus och ditt kungadöme skall bestå inför mig till evig tid, ja, din tron skall vara befäst för evig tid."

17 Helt enligt dessa ord och denna uppenbarelse talade Natan till David. 18 Då gick kung David in och satte sig ner inför Herrens ansikte och sade: "Vem är jag, Herre, Herre, och vad är mitt hus, eftersom du har fört mig ända hit? 19 Och ändå var detta för litet i dina ögon, Herre, Herre. Du har också talat om din tjänares hus långt fram i tiden, och detta till undervisning för människorna, Herre, Herre. 20 Vad skall nu David säga mera till dig? Du känner din tjänare, Herre, Herre. 21 För ditt ords skull och efter ditt hjärta har du gjort allt detta stora och gjort det känt för din tjänare. 22 Därför är du stor, Herre Herre, ty ingen är dig lik, och ingen Gud finns utom dig efter allt vad vi har hört med våra öron. 23 Finns det ett enda folk på jorden likt ditt folk Israel, som Gud själv kom för att friköpa åt sig som sitt eget, för att göra sitt namn känt? Du har gjort storverk för dem och förunderliga ting för ditt land och inför ögonen på ditt folk, som du har friköpt från Egypten, från hednafolken och deras gudar. 24 Du har gjort ditt folk Israel till ett folk åt dig för evig tid, och du, Herre, har blivit deras Gud. 25 Så uppfyll nu, min Herre och Gud, för evigt det ord du har talat om din tjänare och om hans hus. Gör som du har lovat. 26 Då skall ditt namn vara stort till evig tid så att man skall säga: Herren Sebaot är Gud över Israel. Så skall din tjänare Davids hus bestå inför dig. 27 Ty du, Herre Sebaot, Israels Gud, har uppenbarat för din tjänare och sagt: Jag skall bygga dig ett hus. Därför har din tjänare fått frimodighet att be till dig denna bön. 28 Och nu, Herre, Herre, du är Gud, och dina ord är sanning, och du har lovat din tjänare detta goda. 29 Må det nu behaga dig att välsigna din tjänares hus, så att det blir kvar för evigt inför dig. Ty du Herre, Herre, har talat, och genom din välsignelse skall din tjänares hus bli välsignat för evigt."

7 And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the Lord had given him rest round about from all his enemies;
2 That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.
3 And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the Lord is with thee.
4 And it came to pass that night, that the word of the Lord came unto Nathan, saying,
5 Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the Lord, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?
6 Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.
7 In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?
8 Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:
9 And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.
10 Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,
11 And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the Lord telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
17 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
18 Then went king David in, and sat before the Lord, and he said, Who am I, O Lord God? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
19 And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord God; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord God?
20 And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord God, knowest thy servant.
21 For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them.
22 Wherefore thou art great, O Lord God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
23 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?
24 For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, Lord, art become their God.
25 And now, O Lord God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, establish it for ever, and do as thou hast said.
26 And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The Lord of hosts is the God over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.
27 For thou, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.
28 And now, O Lord God, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
29 Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord God, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

7 Una vez el rey David estuvo instalado en su palacio, el Señor le dio descanso de todos los enemigos que lo rodeaban. 2 Entonces el rey dijo al profeta Natán:
—Como puedes ver, yo habito en un palacio de cedro, mientras que el arca de Dios se encuentra bajo el toldo de una tienda.
3 —Bien —respondió Natán—. Haga usted lo que su corazón dicte, pues el Señor está con usted.
4 Pero aquella misma noche la palabra del Señor vino a Natán y le dijo:
5 «Ve y dile a mi siervo David que así dice el Señor: “¿Serás tú acaso quien me construya una casa para que yo la habite? 6 Desde el día en que liberé a los israelitas de Egipto y hasta el día de hoy, no he habitado en casa alguna, sino que he andado de acá para allá, en una tienda a manera de santuario. 7 Todo el tiempo que anduve con los israelitas, ¿acaso le reclamé a alguno de los gobernantes, a los que ordené pastorear a mi pueblo Israel, el no haberme construido una casa de cedro?”.
8 »Pues bien, dile a mi siervo David que así dice el Señor de los Ejércitos: “Yo te saqué del redil para que, en vez de cuidar ovejas, gobernaras a mi pueblo Israel. 9 Yo he estado contigo por dondequiera que has ido y he aniquilado a todos tus enemigos. Y ahora voy a hacerte tan famoso como los más grandes de la tierra. 10 También voy a designar un lugar para mi pueblo Israel, y allí los plantaré para que puedan vivir sin sobresaltos. Sus malvados enemigos no volverán a oprimirlos como lo han hecho desde el principio, 11 desde el día en que nombré líderes sobre mi pueblo Israel. Y a ti te daré descanso de todos tus enemigos.
»”Pero ahora el Señor te hace saber que será él quien te construya una casa. 12 Cuando tu vida llegue a su fin y vayas a descansar entre tus antepasados, yo pondré en el trono a uno de tus propios descendientes y afirmaré su reino. 13 Será él quien construya una casa en honor de mi Nombre y yo afirmaré el trono de su reino para siempre. 14 Yo seré su Padre y él será mi hijo. Así que, cuando haga lo malo, lo castigaré con varas y azotes, como lo haría un padre. 15 Sin embargo, no le negaré mi amor, como se lo negué a Saúl, a quien abandoné para abrirte paso. 16 Tu casa y tu reino durarán para siempre delante de mí;[a] tu trono quedará establecido para siempre”».
17 Natán comunicó todo esto a David, tal como lo había recibido por revelación.

18 Luego el rey David se presentó ante el Señor y dijo:
«Señor y Dios, ¿quién soy yo y qué es mi familia para que me hayas hecho llegar tan lejos? 19 Como si esto fuera poco, oh Señor y Dios, has hecho promesas a este tu siervo en cuanto al futuro de su casa. ¡Tal es tu plan para con los hombres, mi Señor y Dios![b]
20 »¿Qué más podría decir tu siervo David que tú no sepas, Señor mi Dios? 21 Has hecho todas estas grandes maravillas en cumplimiento de tu palabra, según tu voluntad, y las has dado a conocer a tu siervo.
22 »¡Qué grande eres, mi Señor y Dios! Nosotros mismos hemos aprendido que no hay nadie como tú y que aparte de ti no hay Dios. 23 ¿Y qué nación se puede comparar con tu pueblo Israel? Es la única nación en la tierra que tú has redimido para hacerla tu propio pueblo y para dar a conocer tu nombre. Hiciste grandes y asombrosas maravillas cuando al paso de tu pueblo, al cual redimiste de Egipto, expulsaste a las naciones y a sus dioses.[c] 24 Estableciste a Israel para que fuera tu pueblo para siempre y para que tú, Señor, fueras su Dios.
25 »Y ahora, Señor y Dios, reafirma para siempre la promesa que has hecho a tu siervo y a su casa. Cumple tu palabra 26 para que tu nombre sea siempre exaltado y para que todos digan: “¡El Señor de los Ejércitos es Dios de Israel!”. Entonces la casa de tu siervo David quedará establecida en tu presencia.
27 »Señor de los Ejércitos, Dios de Israel, tú le has revelado a tu siervo el propósito de establecerle una casa y por eso tu siervo se ha atrevido a hacerte esta súplica. 28 ¡Oh Señor y Dios, tú eres Dios y has prometido tanta bondad a tu siervo! ¡Tus promesas son fieles! 29 Dígnate entonces bendecir a la familia de tu siervo, de modo que bajo tu protección exista para siempre, pues tú mismo, Señor y Dios, lo has prometido. Si tú bendices la dinastía de tu siervo, quedará bendita para siempre».
