3 Kriget mellan Sauls hus och Davids hus blev långvarigt. Därunder blev David allt starkare och starkare, men Sauls hus allt svagare och svagare.
2 I Hebron föddes söner åt David. hans förstfödde var Amnon, som han fick med Ahinoam från Jisreel.
3 Hans andre son var Kilab, som han fick med Abigal, karmeliten Nabals hustru, och den tredje var Absalom, son till Maaka, som var dotter till Talmai, konungen i Gesur.
4 Den fjärde var Adonia, Haggits son, och den femte var Sefatja, Abitals son.
5 Den sjätte var Jitream, som David fick med sin hustru Egla. Dessa föddes åt David i Hebron.
6 Så länge kriget varade mellan Sauls hus och Davids hus, bistod Abner kraftigt Sauls hus.
7 Men Saul hade haft en bihustru vid namn Rispa, Ajas dotter; och Is-Boset sade till Abner: »Varför har du gått in till min faders bihustru?»
8 För dessa hans ord blev Abner mycket vred och sade: »Är jag då ett hundhuvud från Juda land? Just då jag bevisar barmhärtighet mot din fader Sauls hus, mot hans bröder och hans vänner, och icke har låtit dig falla i Davids hand, just då tillvitar du mig att hava begått en missgärning med denna kvinna.
9 Gud straffe Abner nu och framgent, om jag icke hädanefter handlar så mot David som HERREN med ed har lovat honom:
10 jag vill göra så, att konungadömet tages ifrån Sauls hus, och att i stället Davids tron bliver upprest över både Israel och Juda, från Dan ända till Beer-Seba.»
11 Då tordes han icke säga ett ord mer åt Abner, av fruktan för honom.
12 Men Abner skickade strax sändebud till David och lät säga: »Vem tillhör landet?», och lät vidare säga: »Slut förbund med mig, så skall jag bistå dig och göra så, att hela Israel går över till dig.»
13 Han svarade: »Gott! Jag vill sluta förbund med dig. Men en sak fordrar jag av dig, nämligen att du icke träder fram inför mitt ansikte utan att hit medföra Mikal, Sauls dotter, när du kommer för att träda fram inför mitt ansikte.»
14 Därefter skickade David sändebud till Is-Boset, Sauls son, och lät säga: »Giv mig åter min hustru Mikal, som jag förvärvade mig för ett hundra filistéers förhudar.»
15 Då sände Is-Boset åstad och lät taga henne ifrån hennes man, Paltiel, Lais' son.
16 Men hennes man gick med henne och följde henne under beständig gråt ända till Bahurim. Här sade Abner till honom: »Vänd om och gå dina färde.» Då vände han om.
17 Och Abner hade underhandlat med de äldste i Israel och sagt: »Sedan lång tid tillbaka haven I sökt att få David till konung över eder.
18 Fullborden nu edert uppsåt, ty så har HERREN sagt om David: Genom min tjänare Davids hand skall jag frälsa mitt folk Israel ifrån filistéernas hand och ifrån alla dess fienders hand.»
19 Likaledes talade Abner härom med benjaminiterna. Därefter gick Abner ock åstad for att tala med David i Hebron om allt vad Israel och hela Benjamins hus hade funnit lämpligt att svara.
20 När då Abner, åtföljd av tjugu man, kom till David i Hebron, gjorde David ett gästabud för Abner och hans män.
21 Och Abner sade till David: »Jag vill stå upp och gå åstad och församla hela Israel till min herre konungen, för att de må sluta förbund med dig, så att du bliver konung på vad villkor dig lyster.» Sedan lät David Abner gå, och han drog bort i frid.
22 Just då kommo Davids folk och Joab hem från ett strövtåg och förde med sig ett stort byte; men Abner var nu icke längre kvar hos David i Hebron, ty denne hade låtit honom gå, och han hade dragit bort i frid.
23 Men när Joab och hela hans här kom hem, berättade man för honom och sade: »Abner, Ners son, kom till konungen, och denne lät honom gå, och han drog bort i frid.»
24 Då gick Joab in till konungen och sade: »Vad har du gjort! Då nu Abner hade kommit till dig, varför lät du då honom gå, så att han fritt kunde draga sina färde?
25 Du känner väl Abner, Ners son? Han kom hit för att bedraga dig. Han ville utforska ditt görande och låtande, och utforska allt vad du förehar.
26 Sedan, när Joab hade gått ut från David, sände han bud efter Abner, och sändebuden förde denne tillbaka från Bor-Hassira. Men David visste intet därom.
27 När Abner så hade kommit tillbaka till Hebron, förde Joab honom avsides till mitten av porten, under förevändning att tala enskilt med honom; där sårade han honom till döds med en stöt i underlivet -- detta for att hämnas sin broder Asaels blod.
28 När David sedan fick höra detta, sade han: »Jag och mitt konungadöme äro oskyldiga inför HERREN evinnerligen till Abners, Ners sons blod.
29 Må det komma över Joabs huvud och över hela hans faders hus; och må i Joabs hus aldrig fattas män som hava flytning, eller som äro spetälska, eller som stödja sig på krycka, eller som falla för svärd, eller som lida brist på bröd.»
30 Så hade nu Joab och hans broder Abisai dräpt Abner, därför att denne hade dödat deras broder Asael vid Gibeon, under striden.
31 Och David sade till Joab och allt folket som var med honom: »Riven sönder edra kläder och höljen eder i sorgdräkt och hållen dödsklagan efter Abner.» Och konung David gick själv bakom båren.
32 Så begrovo; de Abner i Hebron; och konungen brast ut i gråt vid Abners grav, och allt folket grät.
33 Och konungen sjöng följande klagosång över Abner: »Måste då Abner dö en gudlös dåres död?
34 Dina händer voro ju ej bundna, dina fötter ej slagna i fjättrar. Du föll såsom man faller för ogärningsmän.» Då begrät allt folket honom ännu mer.»
35 Och allt folket kom för att förmå David att äta något under dagens lopp; men David betygade med ed och sade: »Gud straffe mig nu och framgent, om jag smakar bröd eller något annat, förrän solen har gått ned.»
36 När folket hörde detta, behagade det dem alla väl, likasom allt annat som konungen gjorde behagade allt folket väl.
37 Och allt folket och hela Israel insåg då att konungen ingen del hade haft i att Abner, Ners son, hade blivit dödad.
38 Och konungen sade till sina tjänare: »I veten nogsamt att en furste och en stor man i dag har fallit i Israel.
39 Men jag är ännu svag, fastän jag är smord till konung, och dessa män, Serujas söner, äro starkare än jag. HERREN vedergälle den som ont gör, efter hans ondska.»

3 Hubo larga guerra entre la casa de Saúl y la casa de David; pero David se iba fortaleciendo, y la casa de Saúl se iba debilitando.
Hijos de David nacidos en Hebrón
(1 Cr. 3.1-4)
2 Y nacieron hijos a David en Hebrón; su primogénito fue Amnón, de Ahinoam jezreelita; 3 su segundo Quileab, de Abigail la mujer de Nabal el de Carmel; el tercero, Absalón hijo de Maaca, hija de Talmai rey de Gesur; 4 el cuarto, Adonías hijo de Haguit; el quinto, Sefatías hijo de Abital; 5 el sexto, Itream, de Egla mujer de David. Estos le nacieron a David en Hebrón.
Abner pacta con David en Hebrón
6 Como había guerra entre la casa de Saúl y la de David, aconteció que Abner se esforzaba por la casa de Saúl. 7 Y había tenido Saúl una concubina que se llamaba Rizpa, hija de Aja; y dijo Is-boset a Abner: ¿Por qué te has llegado a la concubina de mi padre? 8 Y se enojó Abner en gran manera por las palabras de Is-boset, y dijo: ¿Soy yo cabeza de perro que pertenezca a Judá? Yo he hecho hoy misericordia con la casa de Saúl tu padre, con sus hermanos y con sus amigos, y no te he entregado en mano de David; ¿y tú me haces hoy cargo del pecado de esta mujer? 9 Así haga Dios a Abner y aun le añada, si como ha jurado Jehová a David, no haga yo así con él, 10 trasladando el reino de la casa de Saúl,(A) y confirmando el trono de David sobre Israel y sobre Judá, desde Dan hasta Beerseba. 11 Y él no pudo responder palabra a Abner, porque le temía.
12 Entonces envió Abner mensajeros a David de su parte, diciendo: ¿De quién es la tierra? Y que le dijesen: Haz pacto conmigo, y he aquí que mi mano estará contigo para volver a ti todo Israel. 13 Y David dijo: Bien; haré pacto contigo, mas una cosa te pido: No me vengas a ver sin que primero traigas a Mical la hija de Saúl, cuando vengas a verme. 14 Después de esto envió David mensajeros a Is-boset hijo de Saúl, diciendo: Restitúyeme mi mujer Mical, la cual desposé conmigo por cien prepucios de filisteos.(B) 15 Entonces Is-boset envió y se la quitó a su marido Paltiel hijo de Lais. 16 Y su marido fue con ella, siguiéndola y llorando hasta Bahurim. Y le dijo Abner: Anda, vuélvete. Entonces él se volvió.
17 Y habló Abner con los ancianos de Israel, diciendo: Hace ya tiempo procurabais que David fuese rey sobre vosotros. 18 Ahora, pues, hacedlo; porque Jehová ha hablado a David, diciendo: Por la mano de mi siervo David libraré a mi pueblo Israel de mano de los filisteos, y de mano de todos sus enemigos. 19 Habló también Abner a los de Benjamín; y fue también Abner a Hebrón a decir a David todo lo que parecía bien a los de Israel y a toda la casa de Benjamín.
20 Vino, pues, Abner a David en Hebrón, y con él veinte hombres; y David hizo banquete a Abner y a los que con él habían venido. 21 Y dijo Abner a David: Yo me levantaré e iré, y juntaré a mi señor el rey a todo Israel, para que hagan contigo pacto, y tú reines como lo desea tu corazón. David despidió luego a Abner, y él se fue en paz.
Joab mata a Abner
22 Y he aquí que los siervos de David y Joab venían del campo, y traían consigo gran botín. Mas Abner no estaba con David en Hebrón, pues ya lo había despedido, y él se había ido en paz. 23 Y luego que llegó Joab y todo el ejército que con él estaba, fue dado aviso a Joab, diciendo: Abner hijo de Ner ha venido al rey, y él le ha despedido, y se fue en paz. 24 Entonces Joab vino al rey, y le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? He aquí Abner vino a ti; ¿por qué, pues, le dejaste que se fuese? 25 Tú conoces a Abner hijo de Ner. No ha venido sino para engañarte, y para enterarse de tu salida y de tu entrada, y para saber todo lo que tú haces.
26 Y saliendo Joab de la presencia de David, envió mensajeros tras Abner, los cuales le hicieron volver desde el pozo de Sira, sin que David lo supiera. 27 Y cuando Abner volvió a Hebrón, Joab lo llevó aparte en medio de la puerta para hablar con él en secreto; y allí, en venganza de la muerte de Asael su hermano, le hirió por la quinta costilla, y murió. 28 Cuando David supo después esto, dijo: Inocente soy yo y mi reino, delante de Jehová, para siempre, de la sangre de Abner hijo de Ner. 29 Caiga sobre la cabeza de Joab, y sobre toda la casa de su padre; que nunca falte de la casa de Joab quien padezca flujo, ni leproso, ni quien ande con báculo, ni quien muera a espada, ni quien tenga falta de pan. 30 Joab, pues, y Abisai su hermano, mataron a Abner, porque él había dado muerte a Asael hermano de ellos en la batalla de Gabaón.
31 Entonces dijo David a Joab, y a todo el pueblo que con él estaba: Rasgad vuestros vestidos, y ceñíos de cilicio, y haced duelo delante de Abner. Y el rey David iba detrás del féretro. 32 Y sepultaron a Abner en Hebrón; y alzando el rey su voz, lloró junto al sepulcro de Abner; y lloró también todo el pueblo. 33 Y endechando el rey al mismo Abner, decía:
¿Había de morir Abner como muere un villano?
34 Tus manos no estaban atadas, ni tus pies ligados con grillos;
Caíste como los que caen delante de malos hombres.
Y todo el pueblo volvió a llorar sobre él. 35 Entonces todo el pueblo vino para persuadir a David que comiera, antes que acabara el día. Mas David juró diciendo: Así me haga Dios y aun me añada, si antes que se ponga el sol gustare yo pan, o cualquiera otra cosa. 36 Todo el pueblo supo esto, y le agradó; pues todo lo que el rey hacía agradaba a todo el pueblo. 37 Y todo el pueblo y todo Israel entendió aquel día, que no había procedido del rey el matar a Abner hijo de Ner. 38 También dijo el rey a sus siervos: ¿No sabéis que un príncipe y grande ha caído hoy en Israel? 39 Y yo soy débil hoy, aunque ungido rey; y estos hombres, los hijos de Sarvia, son muy duros para mí; Jehová dé el pago al que mal hace, conforme a su maldad.

3 The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time.(A) David grew stronger and stronger,(B) while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.(C)
2 Sons were born to David in Hebron:
His firstborn was Amnon(D) the son of Ahinoam(E) of Jezreel;
3 his second, Kileab the son of Abigail(F) the widow of Nabal of Carmel;
the third, Absalom(G) the son of Maakah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;(H)
4 the fourth, Adonijah(I) the son of Haggith;
the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;
5 and the sixth, Ithream the son of David’s wife Eglah.
These were born to David in Hebron.
Abner Goes Over to David
6 During the war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner(J) had been strengthening his own position in the house of Saul. 7 Now Saul had had a concubine(K) named Rizpah(L) daughter of Aiah. And Ish-Bosheth said to Abner, “Why did you sleep with my father’s concubine?”
8 Abner was very angry because of what Ish-Bosheth said. So he answered, “Am I a dog’s head(M)—on Judah’s side? This very day I am loyal to the house of your father Saul and to his family and friends. I haven’t handed you over to David. Yet now you accuse me of an offense involving this woman! 9 May God deal with Abner, be it ever so severely, if I do not do for David what the Lord promised(N) him on oath 10 and transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and establish David’s throne over Israel and Judah from Dan to Beersheba.”(O) 11 Ish-Bosheth did not dare to say another word to Abner, because he was afraid of him.
12 Then Abner sent messengers on his behalf to say to David, “Whose land is it? Make an agreement with me, and I will help you bring all Israel over to you.”
13 “Good,” said David. “I will make an agreement with you. But I demand one thing of you: Do not come into my presence unless you bring Michal daughter of Saul when you come to see me.”(P) 14 Then David sent messengers to Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, demanding, “Give me my wife Michal,(Q) whom I betrothed to myself for the price of a hundred Philistine foreskins.”
15 So Ish-Bosheth gave orders and had her taken away from her husband(R) Paltiel(S) son of Laish. 16 Her husband, however, went with her, weeping behind her all the way to Bahurim.(T) Then Abner said to him, “Go back home!” So he went back.
17 Abner conferred with the elders(U) of Israel and said, “For some time you have wanted to make David your king. 18 Now do it! For the Lord promised David, ‘By my servant David I will rescue my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines(V) and from the hand of all their enemies.(W)’”
19 Abner also spoke to the Benjamites in person. Then he went to Hebron to tell David everything that Israel and the whole tribe of Benjamin(X) wanted to do. 20 When Abner, who had twenty men with him, came to David at Hebron, David prepared a feast(Y) for him and his men. 21 Then Abner said to David, “Let me go at once and assemble all Israel for my lord the king, so that they may make a covenant(Z) with you, and that you may rule over all that your heart desires.”(AA) So David sent Abner away, and he went in peace.
Joab Murders Abner
22 Just then David’s men and Joab returned from a raid and brought with them a great deal of plunder. But Abner was no longer with David in Hebron, because David had sent him away, and he had gone in peace. 23 When Joab and all the soldiers with him arrived, he was told that Abner son of Ner had come to the king and that the king had sent him away and that he had gone in peace.
24 So Joab went to the king and said, “What have you done? Look, Abner came to you. Why did you let him go? Now he is gone! 25 You know Abner son of Ner; he came to deceive you and observe your movements and find out everything you are doing.”
26 Joab then left David and sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the cistern at Sirah. But David did not know it. 27 Now when Abner(AB) returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into an inner chamber, as if to speak with him privately. And there, to avenge the blood of his brother Asahel, Joab stabbed him(AC) in the stomach, and he died.(AD)
28 Later, when David heard about this, he said, “I and my kingdom are forever innocent(AE) before the Lord concerning the blood of Abner son of Ner. 29 May his blood(AF) fall on the head of Joab and on his whole family!(AG) May Joab’s family never be without someone who has a running sore(AH) or leprosy[a] or who leans on a crutch or who falls by the sword or who lacks food.”
30 (Joab and his brother Abishai murdered Abner because he had killed their brother Asahel in the battle at Gibeon.)
31 Then David said to Joab and all the people with him, “Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth(AI) and walk in mourning(AJ) in front of Abner.” King David himself walked behind the bier. 32 They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king wept(AK) aloud at Abner’s tomb. All the people wept also.
33 The king sang this lament(AL) for Abner:
“Should Abner have died as the lawless die?
34 Your hands were not bound,
your feet were not fettered.(AM)
You fell as one falls before the wicked.”
And all the people wept over him again.
35 Then they all came and urged David to eat something while it was still day; but David took an oath, saying, “May God deal with me, be it ever so severely,(AN) if I taste bread(AO) or anything else before the sun sets!”
36 All the people took note and were pleased; indeed, everything the king did pleased them. 37 So on that day all the people there and all Israel knew that the king had no part(AP) in the murder of Abner son of Ner.
38 Then the king said to his men, “Do you not realize that a commander and a great man has fallen(AQ) in Israel this day? 39 And today, though I am the anointed king, I am weak, and these sons of Zeruiah(AR) are too strong(AS) for me.(AT) May the Lord repay(AU) the evildoer according to his evil deeds!”
