Joab förebrår David
19 Snart nådde det fram till Joab att kungen grät och sörjde Absalom.
2 När folket fick höra om hans förtvivlan slutade de att fira segern, och en djup förstämning utbredde sig.
3 De som deltagit i striden på den segrande sidan smög tillbaka in i staden, precis som om de hade flytt undan striden.
4 Kungen satt länge med händerna för ansiktet och jämrade sig i sin sorg: O min son Absalom, min son!
5 Då gick Joab in till kungen och sa till honom: Vi räddade ditt liv i dag, och livet på dina söner, döttrar, fruar och bihustrur, och ändå handlar du på detta sätt och får oss att skämmas, som om vi hade gjort något galet.
6 Du tycks älska dem som hatar dig och hata dem som älskar dig. Tydligen betyder vi ingenting för dig. Om Absalom hade levat och vi alla hade dött, så hade du varit glad.
7 Gå nu ut och gratulera dina män, för jag lovar dig att om du inte gör det, så kommer alla att lämna dig, och inte en enda av dem kommer att stanna kvar här över natten. Du kommer att få det värre än du någonsin har haft det i hela ditt liv.
8-10 Kungen gick då ut och satte sig vid stadsporten, och när nyheten spreds genom staden att han var där, gick alla till honom.Under tiden pratade man överallt i hela landet om vad som hänt. Varför ber vi inte kungen komma tillbaka? sa man. Han har ju räddat oss från våra fiender filisteerna. Absalom, som vi gjorde till kung i hans ställe, jagade ut honom ur landet, men nu är han ju död. Låt oss be David återvända och bli vår kung igen!
11-12 Då sände David prästerna Sadok och Ebjatar till styresmännen i Juda: Varför är ni de sista som talar om att låta kungen återvända? Hela Israel är ju inställda på det, och det är bara er man väntar på! Ändå är ni mina egna bröder, min egen stam, mitt eget kött och blod!
13 Och han bad dem säga till Amasa: Du är min släkting, och nu tar jag Gud till vittne på att jag tänker tillsätta dig som befälhavare över min armé, i stället för Joab.
14 David lyckades på detta sätt ena alla i Juda, och de sände honom detta besked: Kom tillbaka till oss och ta med dig alla dem som följt med dig!
15 Kungen vände då tillbaka till Jerusalem. Men när han kom fram till Gilgal vid Jordanfloden fanns ledarna i Juda där för att möta honom vid vadstället.
16 Simei, benjaminiten Geras son från Bahurim, skyndade sig över tillsammans med styresmännen i Juda för att välkomna kung David.
17 Ett tusen män från Benjamins stam gick med honom tillsammans med Siba, Sauls tjänare, och Sibas femton söner och tjugo tjänare.
18 De skyndade sig ner till Jordan och hjälpte kungens familj och trupperna att ta sig över.Simei, Geras son, skyndade sig över Jordan. Han föll ner inför kungen
19 och bad: Ers Majestät, förlåt mig och glöm det hemska som jag gjorde mot dig när du lämnade Jerusalem,
20 för jag vet mycket väl att jag syndade. Det är därför jag kom hit i dag för att som förste man i hela Josefs stam hälsa dig.
21 Abisai frågade då: Ska inte Simei dö för att han förbannade Herrens utvalde kung?
22 Vad har jag längre gemensamt med dig och din bror Joab? I dag har ni vänt er emot mig! svarade David Abisai. I dag ska ingen dödas, i dag ska vi glädjas över att jag än en gång är Israels kung!
23 Sedan vände han sig till Simei och lovade: Du ska inte dödas.
24-25 Mefiboset, Sauls sonson, hade också kommit från Jerusalem för att möta kungen. Han hade inte tvättat fötterna, klippt skägget eller bytt kläder sedan den dag kungen lämnade Jerusalem.Varför kom du inte med mig, Mefiboset? frågade kungen honom.
26 Mefiboset svarade: Min herre och kung, min tjänare Siba lurade mig. Jag sa till honom: 'Sadla min åsna så att jag kan följa med kungen
27 Men Siba har förrått mig genom att säga att jag vägrade komma. Men jag vet att du brukar höra Gud tala, så gör vad du finner bäst!
28 Jag och alla mina släktingar hade ju bara döden att vänta oss av dig, men i stället hedrade du mig genom att jag fick äta vid ditt eget bord, så varför skulle jag klaga?
29 David svarade: Det räcker så! Du och Siba får dela landet lika mellan er.
30 Låt honom ta alltsammans, sa Mefiboset. Jag är nöjd med att du är tillbaka helskinnad!
31-32 Barsillai, som hade försett kungen och hans armé med proviant under vistelsen i Mahanaim, kom från Rogelim för att gå med kungen över floden. Han var nu åttio år gammal och en mycket rik man.
33 Kom nu med mig och bo i Jerusalem, sa kungen till Barsillai. Jag kan ta hand om dig där.
34 Nej, svarade han. Jag är alltför gammal för det.
35 Jag är nu åttio år, och livet är inte spännande längre. Mat och vin smakar mig inte längre, jag börjar höra dåligt och nöjen har jag inte någon glädje av. Jag skulle bara vara till besvär för min herre kungen.
36 Att bara få gå över floden med dig är allt jag önskar.
37 Låt mig sedan få återvända hem för att dö i min egen stad, där min far och mor är begravda. Men här är din tjänare Kimham, låt honom gå med dig, och ge honom det du tycker är bäst.
38 Bra, svarade kungen. Kimham ska gå med mig, och jag ska göra allt det för honom, som jag skulle ha gjort för dig.
39 Allt folket gick då över Jordan tillsammans med kungen. Och efter det att kungen kysst och välsignat Barsillai återvände denne hem,
40 men kungen gick sedan till Gilgal och Kimham följde honom. Alla soldater i Juda och många från Israel var också där vid vadstället för att hälsa honom välkommen.
41 Men Israels män klagade hos kungen, eftersom bara männen från Juda hade fått hjälpa honom och hans familj över Jordan.
42 Varför klagar ni? svarade Juda män. Kungen är av vår egen stam. Det där behöver ni väl inte bli arga för! Vi har inte bett om något för egen del, och han har inte ens behövt dela med sig av sina förråd till oss.
43 Men vi är tio stammar i Israel, svarade de andra, så vi har större rätt till kungen än ni. Varför behandlar ni oss så här? Var det inte vi som först började tala om att hämta honom tillbaka, för att han skulle bli vår kung igen!Så fortsatte diskussionen fram och tillbaka, och männen från Juda var särskilt hårda i sitt tal.

19 Folk kom og sa til Joab: Kongen gråter og sørger over Absalom.
2 Og seieren blev den dag til sorg for alt folket, fordi folket den dag fikk høre at kongen var bedrøvet over sin sønn.
3 Den dag stjal folket sig inn i byen, som folk stjeler sig hjem når de er skamfulle fordi de har flyktet i krigen.
4 Men kongen hadde tilhyllet sitt ansikt og ropte med høi røst: Min sønn Absalom! Absalom, min sønn, min sønn!
5 Da gikk Joab inn i huset til kongen og sa: Idag vanærer du alle dine menn, som idag har berget både ditt liv og dine sønners og døtres og dine hustruers og medhustruers liv;
6 du elsker jo dem som hater dig, og hater dem som elsker dig; for idag har du vist at hverken høvedsmenn eller tjenere er til for dig; og jeg skjønner nu at om Absalom var i live og alle vi andre var død idag, da syntes du det var som det skulde.
7 Stå nu op og gå ut og tal vennlig til dine menn! For jeg sverger ved Herren at går du ikke ut, så blir det ikke en mann hos dig natten over, og dette vil bli verre for dig enn alt det onde som er kommet over dig fra din ungdom av til nu.
8 Da stod kongen op og satte sig i porten, og da alt folket fikk vite at kongen satt i porten, kom de alle og gikk frem for kongen. Men Israel hadde flyktet, hver mann til sitt hjem.
9 Og alt folket i alle Israels stammer gikk i rette med hverandre og sa: Kongen har fridd oss av våre fienders hånd, og han har reddet oss fra filistrene, og nu er han flyktet ut av landet for Absalom.
10 Men Absalom, som vi hadde salvet til konge over oss, er død i krigen; hvorfor sier I da ikke et ord om å føre kongen tilbake?
11 Da sendte kong David bud til prestene Sadok og Abjatar med de ord: Tal til Judas eldste og si: Hvorfor er I de siste til å hente kongen tilbake til hans hus? For det var kommet kongen for øre i hans hus at hele Israel talte således.
12 I er mine brødre, I er mitt eget kjød og blod; hvorfor er I da de siste til å hente kongen tilbake?
13 Og til Amasa skal I si: Er du ikke mitt eget kjød og blod? Gud la det gå mig ille både nu og siden om ikke du alltid skal være min hærfører i stedet for Joab.
14 Således bøide han alle Judas menns sinn og vant dem for sig alle som én, og de sendte det bud til kongen: Vend tilbake, du og alle dine menn!
15 Så gav kongen sig på tilbakeveien og kom til Jordan. Da var Juda alt kommet til Gilgal for å dra kongen i møte og føre ham over Jordan.
16 Benjaminitten Sime'i, Geras sønn, fra Bahurim, skyndte sig og drog ned med Judas menn for å møte kong David,
17 og tusen mann av Benjamin var med ham, og Siba, som hadde vært tjener for Sauls hus, med sine femten sønner og tyve tjenere; og de satte skyndsomt over Jordan før kongen.
18 Og ferjen fór over elven for å føre kongens hus over og være til hans rådighet i alle ting. Men Sime'i, Geras sønn, falt ned for kongen da han skulde fare over Jordan;
19 og han sa til kongen: Herre, tilregn mig ikke min brøde og kom ikke i hu hvorledes din tjener forbrøt sig den dag da min herre konge drog ut fra Jerusalem! Kongen må ikke la det gå sig til hjerte!
20 For din tjener vet at jeg har syndet; men se, idag er jeg den første av hele Josefs hus som er kommet hit ned for å møte min herre kongen.
21 Men Abisai, Serujas sønn, tok til orde og sa: Skal ikke Sime'i late livet - han som har bannet Herrens salvede?
22 Da sa David: Hvad har jeg med eder å gjøre, I Serujas sønner, at I idag skulde bli mine motstandere? Skulde nogen mann i Israel late livet idag? Jeg vet jo at jeg idag er blitt konge over Israel.
23 Så sa kongen til Sime'i: Du skal ikke dø. Og kongen tilsvor ham det.
24 Mefiboset, Sauls sønn, drog og ned for å møte kongen; han hadde ikke vasket sine føtter og ikke stelt sitt skjegg og ikke tvettet sine klær like fra den dag kongen drog bort, til den dag han kom tilbake med fred.
25 Da nu hele Jerusalem kom kongen i møte, sa kongen til ham: Hvorfor fulgte du ikke med mig, Mefiboset?
26 Han svarte: Herre konge! Min tjener narret mig; for din tjener sa: Jeg vil ha mitt asen salt, så jeg kan ride på det og følge med kongen; for din tjener er lam.
27 Og han baktalte din tjener for min herre kongen. Men min herre kongen er som en Guds engel; gjør derfor som du synes.
28 For hele min fars hus hadde ikke annet å vente av min herre kongen enn død, og dog gav du din tjener plass blandt dem som eter ved ditt bord; hvad rett har jeg da mere å kreve, og hvad mere har jeg å rope til kongen om?
29 Kongen sa til ham: Hvorfor blir du ved å tale herom? Jeg sier: Du og Siba skal dele jordeiendommen.
30 Da sa Mefiboset til kongen: Han kan gjerne få alt sammen, siden min herre kongen er kommet hjem igjen med fred.
31 Gileaditten Barsillai var og kommet ned fra Rogelim og satte med kongen over Jordan for å ledsage ham et stykke på veien.
32 Barsillai var meget gammel, åtti år; han hadde sørget for mat og drikke til kongen under hans ophold i Mahana'im; for han var en meget rik mann.
33 Kongen sa da til Barsillai: Dra med mig, så vil jeg sørge for dig hjemme hos mig i Jerusalem.
34 Barsillai svarte: Hvor mange dager og år kan jeg vel ennu ha å leve, at jeg skulde dra med kongen op til Jerusalem?
35 Jeg er idag åtti år; kan jeg vel nu skjelne mellem godt og ondt, eller kan din tjener smake hvad jeg eter og drikker, eller kan jeg nu lenger høre på sangere og sangerinner? Hvorfor skulde da din tjener lenger være min herre kongen til byrde?
36 Bare for en kort tid kan din tjener gå med kongen over Jordan; men hvorfor skulde kongen vise mig en sådan velgjerning?
37 Kjære, la din tjener vende tilbake, så jeg kan dø i min egen by, hvor min fars og min mors grav er! Men se, her er din tjener Kimham; la ham få dra med min herre kongen, og gjør med ham som du synes!
38 Da sa kongen: Kimham skal dra med mig, og jeg vil gjøre mot ham som du vil, og alt hvad du ønsker av mig, vil jeg gjøre for dig.
39 Så drog da alt folket over Jordan, og kongen drog over; og kongen kysset Barsillai, og Barsillai velsignet ham og vendte tilbake til sitt hjem.
40 Kongen fór over til Gilgal, og Kimham fór med ham; og hele Judas folk førte kongen over, og likeså halvdelen av Israels folk.
41 Men da kom alle Israels menn til kongen og sa til ham: Hvorfor har våre brødre, Judas menn, stjålet dig bort og ført kongen og hans hus og alle Davids menn med ham over Jordan?
42 Da tok alle Judas menn til orde og sa til Israels menn: Fordi kongen er oss nærmest. Og hvorfor er I harme for dette? Har vi vel tæret på kongens gods, eller har vi hatt nogen vinning av ham?
43 Men Israels menn svarte Judas menn således: Ti ganger større del enn I har vi i den som er konge, og således også i David; hvorfor har I da ringeaktet oss? Og var det ikke vi som først talte om å hente vår konge tilbake? Men Judas menns svar var enda hårdere enn det Israels menn hadde talt.

19 [a]Joab was told, “The king is weeping and mourning for Absalom.” 2 And for the whole army the victory that day was turned into mourning, because on that day the troops heard it said, “The king is grieving for his son.” 3 The men stole into the city that day as men steal in who are ashamed when they flee from battle. 4 The king covered his face and cried aloud, “O my son Absalom! O Absalom, my son, my son!”
5 Then Joab went into the house to the king and said, “Today you have humiliated all your men, who have just saved your life and the lives of your sons and daughters and the lives of your wives and concubines. 6 You love those who hate you and hate those who love you. You have made it clear today that the commanders and their men mean nothing to you. I see that you would be pleased if Absalom were alive today and all of us were dead. 7 Now go out and encourage your men. I swear by the Lord that if you don’t go out, not a man will be left with you by nightfall. This will be worse for you than all the calamities that have come on you from your youth till now.”(A)
8 So the king got up and took his seat in the gateway. When the men were told, “The king is sitting in the gateway,(B)” they all came before him.
Meanwhile, the Israelites had fled to their homes.
David Returns to Jerusalem
9 Throughout the tribes of Israel, all the people were arguing among themselves, saying, “The king delivered us from the hand of our enemies; he is the one who rescued us from the hand of the Philistines.(C) But now he has fled the country to escape from Absalom;(D) 10 and Absalom, whom we anointed to rule over us, has died in battle. So why do you say nothing about bringing the king back?”
11 King David sent this message to Zadok(E) and Abiathar, the priests: “Ask the elders of Judah, ‘Why should you be the last to bring the king back to his palace, since what is being said throughout Israel has reached the king at his quarters? 12 You are my relatives, my own flesh and blood. So why should you be the last to bring back the king?’ 13 And say to Amasa,(F) ‘Are you not my own flesh and blood?(G) May God deal with me, be it ever so severely,(H) if you are not the commander of my army for life in place of Joab.(I)’”
14 He won over the hearts of the men of Judah so that they were all of one mind. They sent word to the king, “Return, you and all your men.” 15 Then the king returned and went as far as the Jordan.
Now the men of Judah had come to Gilgal(J) to go out and meet the king and bring him across the Jordan. 16 Shimei(K) son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, hurried down with the men of Judah to meet King David. 17 With him were a thousand Benjamites, along with Ziba,(L) the steward of Saul’s household,(M) and his fifteen sons and twenty servants. They rushed to the Jordan, where the king was. 18 They crossed at the ford to take the king’s household over and to do whatever he wished.
When Shimei son of Gera crossed the Jordan, he fell prostrate before the king 19 and said to him, “May my lord not hold me guilty. Do not remember how your servant did wrong on the day my lord the king left Jerusalem.(N) May the king put it out of his mind. 20 For I your servant know that I have sinned, but today I have come here as the first from the tribes of Joseph to come down and meet my lord the king.”
21 Then Abishai(O) son of Zeruiah said, “Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this? He cursed(P) the Lord’s anointed.”(Q)
22 David replied, “What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah?(R) What right do you have to interfere? Should anyone be put to death in Israel today?(S) Don’t I know that today I am king over Israel?” 23 So the king said to Shimei, “You shall not die.” And the king promised him on oath.(T)
24 Mephibosheth,(U) Saul’s grandson, also went down to meet the king. He had not taken care of his feet or trimmed his mustache or washed his clothes from the day the king left until the day he returned safely. 25 When he came from Jerusalem to meet the king, the king asked him, “Why didn’t you go with me,(V) Mephibosheth?”
26 He said, “My lord the king, since I your servant am lame,(W) I said, ‘I will have my donkey saddled and will ride on it, so I can go with the king.’ But Ziba(X) my servant betrayed me. 27 And he has slandered your servant to my lord the king. My lord the king is like an angel(Y) of God; so do whatever you wish. 28 All my grandfather’s descendants deserved nothing but death(Z) from my lord the king, but you gave your servant a place among those who eat at your table.(AA) So what right do I have to make any more appeals to the king?”
29 The king said to him, “Why say more? I order you and Ziba to divide the land.”
30 Mephibosheth said to the king, “Let him take everything, now that my lord the king has returned home safely.”
31 Barzillai(AB) the Gileadite also came down from Rogelim to cross the Jordan with the king and to send him on his way from there. 32 Now Barzillai was very old, eighty years of age. He had provided for the king during his stay in Mahanaim, for he was a very wealthy(AC) man. 33 The king said to Barzillai, “Cross over with me and stay with me in Jerusalem, and I will provide for you.”
34 But Barzillai answered the king, “How many more years will I live, that I should go up to Jerusalem with the king? 35 I am now eighty(AD) years old. Can I tell the difference between what is enjoyable and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats and drinks? Can I still hear the voices of male and female singers?(AE) Why should your servant be an added(AF) burden to my lord the king? 36 Your servant will cross over the Jordan with the king for a short distance, but why should the king reward me in this way? 37 Let your servant return, that I may die in my own town near the tomb of my father(AG) and mother. But here is your servant Kimham.(AH) Let him cross over with my lord the king. Do for him whatever you wish.”
38 The king said, “Kimham shall cross over with me, and I will do for him whatever you wish. And anything you desire from me I will do for you.”
39 So all the people crossed the Jordan, and then the king crossed over. The king kissed Barzillai and bid him farewell,(AI) and Barzillai returned to his home.
40 When the king crossed over to Gilgal, Kimham crossed with him. All the troops of Judah and half the troops of Israel had taken the king over.
41 Soon all the men of Israel were coming to the king and saying to him, “Why did our brothers, the men of Judah, steal the king away and bring him and his household across the Jordan, together with all his men?”(AJ)
42 All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, “We did this because the king is closely related to us. Why are you angry about it? Have we eaten any of the king’s provisions? Have we taken anything for ourselves?”
43 Then the men of Israel(AK) answered the men of Judah, “We have ten shares in the king; so we have a greater claim on David than you have. Why then do you treat us with contempt? Weren’t we the first to speak of bringing back our king?”
But the men of Judah pressed their claims even more forcefully than the men of Israel.

7 Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably unto thy servants: for I swear by the Lord, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry one with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that befell thee from thy youth until now.
8 Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king doth sit in the gate. And all the people came before the king: for Israel had fled every man to his tent.
9 And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land for Absalom.
10 And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?
11 And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, even to his house.

14 And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou, and all thy servants.
15 So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over Jordan.
16 And Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, which was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.
17 And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over Jordan before the king.
18 And there went over a ferry boat to carry over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan;
19 And said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.
20 For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.
21 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the Lord's anointed?
22 And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?
23 Therefore the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.
24 And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace.
25 And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?
26 And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go to the king; because thy servant is lame.
27 And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.
28 For all of my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?
29 And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I have said, Thou and Ziba divide the land.
30 And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace unto his own house.
31 And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.
32 Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.
33 And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem.
34 And Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?
35 I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?
36 Thy servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?
37 Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.
38 And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.
39 And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.
40 Then the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him: and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.
41 And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David's men with him, over Jordan?
42 And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then be ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king's cost? or hath he given us any gift?
43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
