30 Då sa Absalom till sina tjänare: ”Joavs kornåker ligger bredvid min. Gå och sätt eld på den!” Då gjorde tjänarna som Absalom hade sagt[a] 31 och snart kom Joav till Absalom och frågade: ”Varför har dina tjänare satt eld på min åker?”
32 Absalom svarade: ”Därför att jag skickade bud efter dig och ville sända dig till kungen för att fråga varför han förde mig tillbaka från Geshur. Jag kunde ju lika gärna ha bott kvar där! Nu vill jag träffa kungen och om han anser mig skyldig till något, så får han avrätta mig!”

30 Then he said to his servants, “Look, Joab’s field is next to mine, and he has barley(A) there. Go and set it on fire.” So Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.
31 Then Joab did go to Absalom’s house, and he said to him, “Why have your servants set my field on fire?(B)”
32 Absalom said to Joab, “Look, I sent word to you and said, ‘Come here so I can send you to the king to ask, “Why have I come from Geshur?(C) It would be better for me if I were still there!”’ Now then, I want to see the king’s face, and if I am guilty of anything, let him put me to death.”(D)

31 Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom unto his house, and said unto him, Wherefore have thy servants set my field on fire?
32 And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.
