David Is Kind to Mephibosheth
9 Then David said, “Is there anyone left of the family of Saul, to whom I may show kindness because of Jonathan?” 2 Now there was a servant in Saul’s house whose name was Ziba. They called him to David, and the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” And he said, “I am your servant.” 3 The king said, “Is there not still someone of the family of Saul to whom I may show the kindness of God?” And Ziba said to the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan who cannot walk because of his feet.” 4 So the king said to him, “Where is he?” Ziba answered the king, “See, he is in the family of Machir the son of Ammiel in Lo-debar.” 5 Then King David sent men to bring him from the family of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar. 6 Mephibosheth the son of Saul’s son Jonathan came to David and fell on his face to the ground in respect. David said, “Mephibosheth.” And he answered, “Here is your servant!” 7 David said to him, “Do not be afraid. For I will be sure to show kindness to you because of your father Jonathan. I will return to you all the land of your grandfather Saul. And you will eat at my table always.” 8 Again Mephibosheth put his face to the ground and said, “Who am I? Why should you care for a dead dog like me?”
9 Then the king called Saul’s servant Ziba and said to him, “I have given to your owner’s grandson all that belonged to Saul and his family. 10 You and your sons and your servants will grow food on the land for him. You will bring in the food so your owner’s grandson may eat. But Mephibosheth your owner’s grandson will always eat at my table.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. 11 Then Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do all that my lord the king tells your servant to do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table as one of the king’s sons. 12 Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was Mica. And all who lived in Ziba’s house were Mephibosheth’s servants. 13 So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, for he always ate at the king’s table. Both his feet had been hurt and he could not walk.

And David said, “Mephibosheth!” And he answered, “Behold, I am your servant.” 7 And David said to him, “Do not fear, (G)for I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and (H)you shall eat at my table always.” 8 And he paid homage and said, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for (I)a dead dog such as I?”
9 Then the king called Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, “All that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master's grandson. 10 And you and your sons and your servants shall till the land for him and shall bring in the produce, that your master's grandson may have bread to eat. But Mephibosheth your master's grandson (J)shall always eat at my table.” Now Ziba had (K)fifteen sons and twenty servants. 11 Then Ziba said to the king, “According to all that my lord the king commands his servant, so will your servant do.” So Mephibosheth (L)ate at David's[a] table, like one of the king's sons. 12 And Mephibosheth had a young son, (M)whose name was Mica. And all who lived in Ziba's house became Mephibosheth's servants. 13 So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, for (N)he ate always at the king's table. Now (O)he was lame in both his feet.

9 David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”(A)
2 Now there was a servant of Saul’s household named Ziba.(B) They summoned him to appear before David, and the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?”
“At your service,” he replied.
3 The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?”
Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan;(C) he is lame(D) in both feet.”
4 “Where is he?” the king asked.
Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir(E) son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.”
5 So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.
6 When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor.(F)
David said, “Mephibosheth!”
“At your service,” he replied.
7 “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan.(G) I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.(H)”
8 Mephibosheth(I) bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog(J) like me?”
9 Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul’s steward, and said to him, “I have given your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. 10 You and your sons and your servants are to farm the land for him and bring in the crops, so that your master’s grandson(K) may be provided for. And Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will always eat at my table.” (Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.)
11 Then Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do whatever my lord the king commands his servant to do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s[a] table like one of the king’s sons.(L)
12 Mephibosheth had a young son named Mika, and all the members of Ziba’s household were servants of Mephibosheth.(M) 13 And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet.

2 Es war aber ein Knecht vom Haus Sauls, der hieß Ziba; den riefen sie zu David. Und der König sprach zu ihm: Bist du Ziba? Und er sprach: Dein Knecht!
3 Und der König sprach: Ist noch jemand da vom Haus Sauls, dass ich Gottes Gnade an ihm erweise? Ziba sprach zum König: Es ist noch ein Sohn Jonathans da, der lahm an den Füßen ist.
4 Und der König sprach zu ihm: Wo ist er? Und Ziba sprach zum König: Siehe, er ist in Lodebar, im Haus Machirs, des Sohnes von Ammiel!
5 Da sandte der König David hin und ließ ihn aus Lodebar holen, aus dem Haus Machirs, des Sohnes von Ammiel.
6 Und Mephiboseth, der Sohn Jonathans, des Sohnes Sauls, kam zu David, und er fiel auf sein Angesicht und verneigte sich. Und David sprach: Mephiboseth! Er aber sprach: Siehe, dein Knecht!
7 Und David sprach zu ihm: Fürchte dich nicht; denn ich will gewiss Gnade an dir erweisen um deines Vaters Jonathan willen und will dir alle Felder deines Vaters Saul wiedergeben; du aber sollst täglich an meinem Tisch das Brot essen!
8 Da verneigte er sich und sprach: Wer bin ich, dein Knecht, dass du dich wendest zu einem toten Hund, wie ich einer bin?
9 Und der König rief Ziba, den Knecht[b] Sauls, und sprach zu ihm: Alles, was Saul und seinem ganzen Haus gehört hat, das habe ich dem Sohn deines Herrn gegeben.
10 So bestelle ihm nun sein Land, du und deine Söhne und deine Knechte, und bring [die Ernte] ein, damit der Sohn deines Herrn Brot zu essen hat; Mephiboseth aber, der Sohn deines Herrn, soll täglich Brot an meinem Tisch essen! Ziba aber hatte 15 Söhne und 20 Knechte.
11 Und Ziba sprach zum König: Ganz so, wie mein Herr, der König, seinem Knecht gebietet, wird dein Knecht es machen! Und Mephiboseth wird an meinem Tisch essen wie einer der Königssöhne!
12 Und Mephiboseth hatte einen kleinen Sohn, der hieß Micha. Und alle, die im Haus Zibas wohnten, dienten Mephiboseth.
13 Mephiboseth aber wohnte in Jerusalem, denn er aß täglich am Tisch des Königs. Er war aber lahm an beiden Füßen.
