2 Samuel 7:11-16

New International Version

¹¹and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders^[a]^(A) over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies.^(B)

“‘The Lord declares^(C) to you that the Lord himself will establish^(D) a house^(E) for you: ¹²When your days are over and you rest^(F) with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood,^(G) and I will establish his kingdom.^(H) ¹³He is the one who will build a house^(I) for my Name,^(J) and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.^(K) ¹⁴I will be his father, and he will be my son.^(L) When he does wrong, I will punish him^(M) with a rod^(N) wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. ¹⁵But my love will never be taken away from him,^(O) as I took it away from Saul,^(P) whom I removed from before you. ¹⁶Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me^[b]; your throne^(Q) will be established^(R) forever.^(S)’”

The Coming of Zion’s King

⁹Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!^(A)
    Shout,^(B) Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,^(C)
    righteous and victorious,^(D)
lowly and riding on a donkey,^(E)
    on a colt, the foal of a donkey.^(F)
¹⁰I will take away the chariots from Ephraim
    and the warhorses from Jerusalem,
    and the battle bow will be broken.^(G)
He will proclaim peace^(H) to the nations.
    His rule will extend from sea to sea
    and from the River^[a] to the ends of the earth.^(I)
¹¹As for you, because of the blood of my covenant^(J) with you,
    I will free your prisoners^(K) from the waterless pit.^(L)
¹²Return to your fortress,^(M) you prisoners of hope;
    even now I announce that I will restore twice^(N) as much to you.
¹³I will bend Judah as I bend my bow^(O)
    and fill it with Ephraim.^(P)
I will rouse your sons, Zion,
    against your sons, Greece,^(Q)
    and make you like a warrior’s sword.^(R)
