The Ark Brought to Jerusalem(A)(B)

6 David again brought together all the able young men of Israel—thirty thousand. 2 He and all his men went to Baalah[a](C) in Judah to bring up from there the ark(D) of God, which is called by the Name,[b](E) the name of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned(F) between the cherubim(G) on the ark. 3 They set the ark of God on a new cart(H) and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill.(I) Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart 4 with the ark of God on it,[c] and Ahio was walking in front of it. 5 David and all Israel were celebrating(J) with all their might before the Lord, with castanets,[d] harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and cymbals.(K)

6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of(L) the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. 7 The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act;(M) therefore God struck him down,(N) and he died there beside the ark of God.

8 Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath(O) had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.[e](P)

9 David was afraid of the Lord that day and said, “How(Q) can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?” 10 He was not willing to take the ark of the Lord to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom(R) the Gittite. 11 The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household.(S)

12 Now King David(T) was told, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. 13 When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed(U) a bull and a fattened calf. 14 Wearing a linen ephod,(V) David was dancing(W) before the Lord with all his might, 15 while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts(X) and the sound of trumpets.(Y)

16 As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David,(Z) Michal(AA) daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.

17 They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it,(AB) and David sacrificed burnt offerings(AC) and fellowship offerings before the Lord. 18 After he had finished sacrificing(AD) the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed(AE) the people in the name of the Lord Almighty. 19 Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins(AF) to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women.(AG) And all the people went to their homes.

20 When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked(AH) in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!”

21 David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed(AI) me ruler(AJ) over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.”

23 And Michal daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.

6 Davide radunò di nuovo tutti gli uomini scelti d'Israele in numero di trentamila.

2 Poi si levò e partì con tutto il popolo che era con lui da Baale di Giuda, per trasportare di là l'arca di DIO, col nome stesso dell'Eterno degli eserciti, che siede sopra i cherubini.

3 E posero l'arca di DIO sopra un carro nuovo e la tolsero dalla casa di Abinadab che era sul colle; Uzzah e Ahio, figli di Abinadab guidavano il carro nuovo.

4 Cosí condussero via l'arca di DIO dalla casa di Abinadab che era sul colle, e Ahio andava davanti all'arca.

5 Davide e tutta la casa d'Israele suonavano davanti all'Eterno ogni sorta di strumenti di legno di cipresso, cetre, arpe, tamburelli, sistri e cembali.

6 Quando giunsero all'aia di Nakon Uzzah stese la mano verso l'arca di DIO e la sostenne, perché i buoi inciamparono.

7 Allora l'ira dell'Eterno si accese contro Uzzah, e là DIO lo colpí per la sua colpa; ed egli morí in quel luogo presso l'arca di DIO

8 Davide fu grandemente amareggiato perché l'Eterno aveva aperto una breccia nel popolo, colpendo Uzzah. Cosí quel luogo fu chiamato Perets-Uzzah fino ad oggi.

9 Davide in quel giorno ebbe paura dell'Eterno e disse: «Come può venire da me l'arca dell'Eterno?».

10 Cosí Davide non volle trasportare l'arca dell'Eterno presso di sé nella città di Davide, ma la fece trasferire in casa di Obed-Edom di Gath.

11 L'arca dell'Eterno rimase tre mesi in casa di Obed-Edom di Gath, e l'Eterno benedisse Obed-Edom e tutta la sua casa.

12 Allora fu detto al re Davide: «L'Eterno ha benedetto la casa di Obed-Edom e tutto ciò che gli appartiene, a motivo dell'arca di DIO». Allora Davide andò e trasportò l'arca di DIO dalla casa di Obed-Edom nella città di Davide con gioia.

13 Quando quelli che portavano l'arca dell'Eterno ebbero fatto sei passi, egli immolò un bue e un vitello grasso.

14 Davide danzava con tutte le sue forze davanti all'Eterno, cinto di un efod di lino.

15 Cosí Davide e tutta la casa d'Israele trasportarono l'arca dell'Eterno con grida di giubilo e a suon di tromba.

16 Or avvenne che, mentre l'arca dell'Eterno entrava nella città di Davide, Mikal, figlia di Saul, guardando dalla finestra, vide il re Davide che saltava e danzava davanti all'Eterno, e lo disprezzò in cuor suo.

17 Cosí portarono l'arca dell'Eterno e la collocarono al suo posto, in mezzo alla tenda che Davide aveva eretto per essa. Poi Davide offrí olocausti e sacrifici di ringraziamento davanti all'Eterno.

18 Quando ebbe finito di offrire gli olocausti e i sacrifici di ringraziamento, Davide benedisse il popolo nel nome dell'Eterno degli eserciti,

19 e distribuí a tutto il popolo, a tutta la moltitudine d'Israele, uomini e donne, a ciascuno di essi una focaccia di pane una porzione di carne e una schiacciata di uva passa. Poi tutto il popolo se ne andò, ciascuno a casa sua.

20 Come Davide tornava per benedire la sua famiglia, Mikal, figlia di Saul, uscí ad incontrare Davide e gli disse: «Quanto degno di onore è stato oggi il re d'Israele a scoprirsi davanti agli occhi delle serve dei suoi servi come si scoprirebbe un uomo del volgo!».

21 Allora Davide rispose a Mikal: «L'ho fatto davanti all'Eterno che mi ha scelto invece di tuo padre e di tutta la sua casa per stabilirmi principe d'Israele, del popolo dell'Eterno; perciò ho fatto festa davanti all'Eterno.

22 Anzi mi abbasserò anche piú di cosí e mi renderò spregevole ai miei occhi ma, in merito alle serve di cui tu hai parlato io sarò onorato proprio da loro».

23 Mikal, figlia di Saul, non ebbe figli fino al giorno della sua morte. Dio promette a Davide di stabilire per sempre la sua casa e il suo regno

6 Again David gathered all the choice men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2 And (B)David arose and went with all the people who were with him from [a]Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called [b]by the Name, the Lord of Hosts, (C)who dwells between the cherubim. 3 So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on (D)the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new [c]cart. 4 And they brought it out of (E)the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark. 5 Then David and all the house of Israel (F)played music before the Lord on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals.

6 And when they came to (G)Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his (H)hand to the ark of God and [d]took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. 7 Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his [e]error; and he died there by the ark of God. 8 And David became angry because of the Lord’s outbreak against Uzzah; and he called the name of the place [f]Perez Uzzah to this day.

9 (I)David was afraid of the Lord that day; and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” 10 So David would not move the ark of the Lord with him into the (J)City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the (K)Gittite. 11 (L)The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the Lord (M)blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.

12 Now it was told King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” (N)So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness. 13 And so it was, when (O)those bearing the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, that he sacrificed (P)oxen and fatted sheep. 14 Then David (Q)danced[g] before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing (R)a linen ephod. 15 (S)So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.

16 Now as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, (T)Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart. 17 So (U)they brought the ark of the Lord, and set it in (V)its place in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it. Then David (W)offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. 18 And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, (X)he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts. 19 (Y)Then he distributed among all the people, among the whole multitude of Israel, both the women and the men, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins. So all the people departed, everyone to his house.

20 (Z)Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious was the king of Israel today, (AA)uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the (AB)base fellows [h]shamelessly uncovers himself!”

21 So David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, (AC)who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the (AD)people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord. 22 And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor.”

23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children (AE)to the day of her death.
