5 3 David is made King over all Israel. 7 He taketh the fort of Zion. 19 He asketh counsel of the Lord. 23 And overcometh the Philistines twice.
1 Then (A)came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and said thus, Behold, we are thy [a]bones and thy flesh.
2 And in time past when Saul was our King, thou leddest Israel in and out: and the Lord hath said to thee, (B)Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.
3 So all the Elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron: and King David made a covenant with them in Hebron [b]before the Lord, and they anointed David King over Israel.
4 ¶ David was thirty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned forty years.
5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah (C)seven years, and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.
6 ¶ The King also and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: who spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the [c]blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking that David could not come thither:
7 But David took the fort of Zion: this is the city of David.
8 Now David had said the same day, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites, and getteth up to the gutters and smiteth the lame and blind, which David’s soul hateth, I will prefer him: (D)therefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not [d]come into that house.
9 So David dwelt in that fort, and called it the city of David, and David built round about it, from [e]Millo, and inward.
10 And David prospered and grew: for the Lord God of hosts was with him.
11 ¶ Hiram also king of [f]Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons for walls: and they built David an house.
12 Then David knew that the Lord had established him King over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.
13 And David took him more (E)concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron, and more sons and daughters were born to David.
14 (F)And these be the names of the sons, that were born unto him in Jerusalem, Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,
15 And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
16 And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphelet.
17 ¶ (G)But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David: and when David heard, he went down to a fort.
18 But the Philistines came, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
19 Then David [g]asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hands? And the Lord answered David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hands.
20 ¶ (H)Then David came to Baal Perazim, and smote them there, and said, The Lord hath divided mine enemies asunder before me, as waters be divided asunder: therefore he called the name of that place, [h]Baal Perazim.
21 And there they left their images, and David and his men (I)burnt them.
22 Again the Philistines came up, and spread themselves in the valley of [i]Rephaim.
23 And when David asked counsel of the Lord, he answered, Thou shalt not go up, but turn about behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
24 And when thou hearest the noise of one going in the tops of the mulberry trees, then remove: for then shall the Lord go out before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
25 Then David did so as the Lord had commanded him, and smote the Philistines from Geba, until thou come to [j]Gezer.

Dazu hat der Herr dir gesagt: Du sollst mein Volk Israel weiden, und du sollst Fürst sein über Israel! 3 Und alle Ältesten Israels kamen zum König gen Hebron. Und der König David machte mit ihnen einen Bund zu Hebron vor dem Herrn. Und sie salbten David zum König über Israel.
4 David war dreißig Jahre alt, als er König ward, und regierte vierzig Jahre lang. 5 Zu Hebron regierte er über Juda sieben Jahre und sechs Monate; aber zu Jerusalem regierte er über ganz Israel und Juda dreiunddreißig Jahre.

6 Und der König zog mit seinen Männern nach Jerusalem gegen die Jebusiter, die im Lande wohnten; die sprachen zu David: Du wirst hier nicht hereinkommen, sondern die Blinden und die Lahmen werden dich vertreiben! Das sollte heißen: David wird nicht hineinkommen! 7 Aber David nahm die Burg Zion ein; das ist die Stadt Davids. 8 Denn David sprach an jenem Tage: Wer die Jebusiter schlägt und die Wasserleitung erreicht und die Lahmen und Blinden, welchen die Seele Davids feind ist [der soll ein Haupt und Oberster sein][a]. Daher spricht man: „Es wird kein Blinder noch Lahmer ins Haus kommen!“
9 Und David ließ sich nieder auf der Burg und nannte sie Stadt Davids. Und David baute ringsum vom Millo[b] an einwärts. 10 Und David ward immer mächtiger, und der Herr, der Gott der Heerscharen, war mit ihm.
11 Und Hiram, der König zu Tyrus, sandte Boten zu David und Zedernstämme und Zimmerleute und Steinmetzen, und sie bauten David ein Haus. 12 Da erkannte David, daß der Herr ihn zum König über Israel bestätigt und sein Königreich zu Ansehen gebracht habe um seines Volkes Israel willen.
13 Und David nahm sich noch mehr Kebsweiber und Frauen in Jerusalem, nachdem er von Hebron gekommen war, und es wurden ihm noch mehr Söhne und Töchter geboren. 14 Und dies sind die Namen derer, die ihm zu Jerusalem geboren sind: Sammua, Sobab, Natan und Salomo; 15 Jibchar, Elischua, Nepheg und Japhia;
16 Elischama, Eljada und Eliphelet.
Doppelter Sieg Davids über die Philister
17 Als aber die Philister hörten, daß man David zum König über Israel gesalbt hatte, zogen sie alle herauf, um David herauszufordern. Als David solches erfuhr, zog er zur Bergfeste hinab. 18 Aber die Philister kamen und ließen sich im Tal Rephaim nieder. 19 Und David befragte den Herrn und sprach: Soll ich wider die Philister hinaufziehen? Und willst du sie in meine Hand geben?
Der Herr sprach zu David: Ziehe hinauf, denn ich will die Philister gewiß in deine Hand geben!
20 Und David kam gen Baal-Perazim und schlug sie daselbst und sprach: Der Herr hat meine Feinde vor mir zerrissen, wie das Wasser einen Damm zerreißt! Daher hieß man jenen Ort Baal-Perazim[c]. 21 Und sie ließen ihre Götzen daselbst; David aber und seine Männer nahmen sie weg.
22 Aber die Philister zogen nochmals herauf und ließen sich im Tal Rephaim nieder. 23 Und David befragte den Herrn. Da sprach er: Du sollst nicht hinaufziehen; sondern umgehe sie und falle ihnen in den Rücken, daß du an sie herankommest von den Balsamstauden her. 24 Und wenn du in den Wipfeln der Balsamstauden das Geräusch eines Einherschreitens hören wirst, alsdann beeile dich; denn der Herr ist alsdann vor dir hergezogen, das Heer der Philister zu schlagen. 25 Und David tat also, wie ihm der Herr geboten hatte, und schlug die Philister von Geba an, bis man gen Geser kommt.

20 And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The Lord hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim.
21 And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.
22 And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
23 And when David enquired of the Lord, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
24 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the Lord go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
25 And David did so, as the Lord had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.
