² Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, ^(A)you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the Lord said to you, ^(B)‘You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over Israel.’ ”

^24 (A)“David My servant shall be king over them, and ^(B)they shall all have one shepherd; ^(C)they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them. ^25 (D)Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children’s children, ^(E)forever; and ^(F)My servant David shall be their prince forever.

²³ I will establish one ^(A)shepherd over them, and he shall feed them—^(B)My servant David. He shall feed them and be their shepherd.

⁷ Wherever I have ^(A)moved about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded ^(B)to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’ ” ’

³⁰ And it shall come to pass, when the Lord has done for my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and has appointed you ^(A)ruler over Israel,

¹³ Therefore Saul removed him from ^[a]his presence, and made him his captain over a thousand; and ^(A)he went out and came in before the people.

^11 (A)“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.
