23 Dios eligió a David, el gran poeta de Israel, y le dio el lugar más importante. Lo que sigue fueron las últimas palabras de David:
2 «Estas palabras no son mías;
son palabras del espíritu de Dios,
que habla por medio de mí.
3 Y esto es lo que me dijo
el Dios que ayuda a Israel:
“El rey que me toma en cuenta
en todo lo que hace,
y es justo con su pueblo,
4 es como la luz de la mañana
y como el sol después de la tormenta:
le hace bien a la tierra,
y hace crecer la hierba”.
5 »Dios hizo un pacto conmigo;
un pacto seguro y bien hecho
que durará para siempre.
Por eso mi familia siempre estará segura,
y Dios cumplirá todos mis deseos.
6-7 »La gente malvada es como los espinos,
que nadie se atreve a tocarlos.
Más bien, se arrojan al fuego,
como si fueran basura,
hasta quemarlos por completo.
¡Nadie jamás vuelve a recogerlos!»
Los tres mejores guerreros (1 Cr 11.10-47)
8 Los guerreros más valientes del ejército de David eran tres.
El primero de ellos era Joseb-basébet hijo de Hacmoní, y era el jefe de los tres. En cierta ocasión, mató con su lanza a ochocientos hombres.
9 El segundo era Eleazar hijo de Dodó de Ajoj. Eleazar estuvo con David en Pasadamim, cuando los filisteos se reunieron para pelear contra Israel. En esa batalla los israelitas huyeron, 10 pero Eleazar se quedó matando filisteos hasta que el brazo se le acalambró. A pesar de eso, no soltó la espada. Cuando los soldados israelitas se dieron cuenta, regresaron a ayudarlo, pero sólo encontraron soldados muertos; así que se apoderaron de las pertenencias de los filisteos. Ese día, Dios le dio una gran victoria a Israel.
11 El tercero era Samá hijo de Agué de Arat. Los filisteos se habían reunido en un campo sembrado con lentejas para atacar a los israelitas. En cuanto los israelitas vieron a los filisteos, huyeron; 12 pero Samá no se movió del campo, sino que lo defendió y mató a los filisteos. Ese día, Dios le dio una gran victoria.
13-17 Hubo varias ocasiones en que estos tres valientes realizaron grandes actos de valentía. Una vez, al comienzo de la cosecha, estos tres valientes fueron a ayudar a David, que estaba en la cueva de Adulam. Los filisteos habían acampado en el valle de Refaim.
En esa ocasión David estaba en la cueva, mientras que un grupo de filisteos estaba en Belén. David tenía sed y dijo: «¡Cómo quisiera yo que alguien me trajera agua del pozo que está junto a la entrada de Belén!» Enseguida los tres oficiales fueron al campamento filisteo y, sin que nadie los viera, sacaron agua del pozo y se la llevaron a David.
Sin embargo, David no quiso beberla; prefirió derramarla como una ofrenda a Dios, y dijo: «¡Que Dios me libre de beber esta agua! Estos hombres arriesgaron su vida por traérmela, así que no la tomaré».
Los treinta más valientes
18-19 Abisai, el hijo de Seruiá y hermano de Joab, se hizo muy famoso. Por eso llegó a ser el jefe de los treinta soldados más valientes. Se hizo tan famoso como los otros tres cuando mató con su lanza a trescientos soldados. Pero ni así logró superar la fama de aquéllos.
20 Benaías hijo de Joiadá era un soldado muy valiente que vivía en Cabseel. Realizó grandes actos de valentía. En cierta ocasión, mató a dos de los mejores soldados moabitas. En otra ocasión en que cayó nieve, mató a un león que estaba en un hoyo profundo. 21 Y en otra ocasión, mató a un egipcio de gran estatura. El egipcio llevaba una lanza en la mano, y Benaías sólo tenía una vara; pero esa vara le bastó para quitarle al egipcio la lanza y matarlo con ella.
22-23 Entre los treinta soldados más valientes, Benaías llegó a ser tan famoso como los tres más grandes, aunque nunca llegó a ser como ellos. Con todo, David lo nombró jefe de sus guardias.
24 También eran parte del grupo de los treinta los siguientes soldados:

dulce cantor de Israel;
hombre exaltado por el Altísimo
y ungido por el Dios de Jacob.
2 »El Espíritu del Señor habló por medio de mí;
puso sus palabras en mi lengua.
3 El Dios de Israel habló,
la Roca de Israel me dijo:
“El que gobierne a la gente con justicia,
el que gobierne en el temor de Dios,
4 será como la luz de la aurora
en un amanecer sin nubes,
que tras la lluvia resplandece
para que brote la hierba en la tierra”.
5 »Dios ha establecido mi casa;
ha hecho conmigo un pacto eterno,
bien reglamentado y seguro.
Dios hará que brote mi salvación
y que se cumpla todo mi deseo.
6 Pero los malvados son como espinos que se desechan;
nadie los toca con la mano.
7 Se recogen con un hierro o con el asta de una lanza
y ahí el fuego los consume».

8 Estos son los nombres de los soldados más valientes de David:
Joseb Basébet el tacmonita, que era el principal de los tres más famosos, en una batalla mató con su lanza[a] a ochocientos hombres.
9 En segundo lugar estaba Eleazar, hijo de Dodó, el ajojita, que también era uno de los tres más famosos. Estuvo con David cuando desafiaron a los filisteos que se habían concentrado en Pasdamín[b] para la batalla. Los israelitas se retiraron, 10 pero Eleazar se mantuvo firme y derrotó a tantos filisteos que, por la fatiga, la mano se le quedó pegada a la espada. Aquel día el Señor dio una gran victoria. Las tropas regresaron adonde estaba Eleazar, pero solo para tomar los despojos.
11 El tercer valiente era Sama, hijo de Agué, el ararita. En cierta ocasión, los filisteos formaron sus tropas[c] en un campo sembrado de lentejas. El ejército de Israel huyó ante ellos, 12 pero Sama se plantó en medio del campo y lo defendió, derrotando a los filisteos. El Señor les dio una gran victoria.
13 En otra ocasión, tres de los treinta más valientes fueron a la cueva de Adulán, donde estaba David. Era el comienzo de la siega y una tropa filistea acampaba en el valle de Refayin. 14 David se encontraba en su fortaleza. En ese tiempo había una guarnición filistea en Belén. 15 Como David tenía mucha sed, exclamó: «¡Ojalá pudiera yo beber agua del pozo que está a la entrada de Belén!». 16 Entonces los tres valientes se metieron en el campamento filisteo, sacaron agua del pozo de Belén y se la llevaron a David. Pero él no quiso beberla, sino que derramó el agua en honor al Señor 17 y declaró solemnemente: «¡Que el Señor me libre de beberla! ¡Eso sería como beber la sangre de hombres que han puesto su vida en peligro!». Y no quiso beberla.
Tales hazañas hicieron estos tres héroes.
18 Abisay, el hermano de Joab, hijo de Sarvia, estaba al mando de los tres y ganó fama entre ellos. En cierta ocasión, lanza en mano atacó y mató a trescientos hombres. 19 Se destacó más que los tres valientes y llegó a ser su comandante, pero no fue contado entre ellos.
20 Benaías, hijo de Joyadá, era un guerrero de Cabsel que realizó muchas hazañas. Derrotó a dos de los mejores hombres[d] de Moab y, en otra ocasión, cuando estaba nevando, se metió en una cisterna y mató un león. 21 También derrotó a un egipcio de gran estatura. El egipcio empuñaba una lanza, pero Benaías, que no llevaba más que un palo, le arrebató la lanza y lo mató con ella. 22 Tales hazañas hizo Benaías, hijo de Joyadá. También él ganó fama como los tres valientes, 23 pero no fue contado entre ellos, aunque se destacó más que los treinta valientes. Además, David lo puso al mando de su guardia real.

23 Now these be the last devarim of Dovid. Dovid Ben Yishai said, the gever (man) who was raised up above, the Moshiach Elohei Ya’akov, and the singer of zemirot (songs) of Yisroel, said,
2 The Ruach Hashem spoke by me, and His word was on my leshon.
3 The Elohei Yisroel said, the Tzur Yisroel spoke to me, He that ruleth over adam, Tzaddik, ruling in the yirat Elohim.
4 And He shall be as the ohr of the boker, when the shemesh riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender deshe (grass) springing out of ha’aretz by clear shining after matar (rain).
5 Is not my Bais so with G-d? Yet He hath made with me a Brit Olam, ordered in all things, and sure; for this is all my salvation, and all my chefetz (desire), will He not make it spring forth (tzemach). [See Zecharyah 3:8; 6:11-12]?
6 But the Bnei Beliyaal [rebellious] shall be all of them as kotz (thorns) thrust away, because they cannot be gathered with hands;
7 But the one that shall touch them must be armed with barzel (iron) and the staff of a khanit (spear); and they shall be utterly burned with eish where they are.
8 These be the shmot of the gibborim whom Dovid had; Yoshev Bashevet Tachkemoni, chief among the Three; the same was Adino the Etzni; he killed eight hundred, in one encounter.
9 And after him was Eleazar Ben Dodai the Achochi, one of the three gibborim with Dovid, when they defied the Pelishtim that were there gathered together to milchamah, and the Ish Yisroel were gone away;
10 He arose, and struck the Pelishtim until his yad was weary, and his yad had devekyus unto the cherev; and Hashem wrought a teshuah gedolah (great victory) that day; and the people returned after him only to plunder.
11 And after him was Shammah Ben Agee the Harari. And the Pelishtim were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentils; and the people fled from the Pelishtim.
12 But he stood in the midst of the allotted ground, and defended it, and slaughtered the Pelishtim; and Hashem wrought a teshuah gedolah.
13 And three of the thirty chief men went down, and came to Dovid in the time of katzir unto the cave of Adulam; and the troop of the Pelishtim encamped in the Emek Rephaim.
14 And Dovid was then in the matzadah, and the garrison of the Pelishtim was then in Beit-Lechem.
15 And Dovid longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the mayim of the well of Beit-Lechem, which is by the sha’ar!
16 And the three gibborim broke through the machaneh of the Pelishtim, and drew mayim out of the well of Beit-Lechem, that was by the sha’ar, and took it, and brought it to Dovid; nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto Hashem.
17 And he said, Chalilah! (be it far from me), Hashem, that I should do this! Is not this the dahm of the anashim that went in jeopardy of their nafshot? Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three gibborim.
18 And Avishai, the brother of Yoav Ben Tzeruyah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his khanit (spear) against three hundred, and slaughtered them, and had the shem among the Three.
19 Was he not most honored of the Three? Therefore he was their sar; howbeit he attained not unto the first three.
20 And Benayah Ben Yehoyada was a ben chayil, of Kavtze’el, who had done many deeds: he slaughtered two lionlike men of Moav; he went down also and slaughtered an aryeh in the midst of a pit on a snowy day;
21 And he slaughtered an Egyptian, a goodly man; and the Egyptian had a khanit (spear) in his yad; but he went down to him with a shevet (club), and plucked the khanit out of the Egyptian’s yad, and slaughtered him with his own khanit.
22 These things did Benayah Ben Yehoyada, and had the shem among three gibborim.
23 He was more honored than the Shloshim, but he attained not to the first Three. And Dovid set him over his bodyguard.
24 Asah-el the brother of Yoav was one of the thirty; Elchanan Ben Dodo of Beit-Lechem,
25 Shammah the Harodi, Elika the Charodi,
26 Cheletz the Palti, Ira Ben Ikkesh the Tekoi,
27 Aviezer the Anethoti, Mevunai the Chushati,
28 Tzalmon the Achochi, Maharai the Netophati,
29 Chelev Ben Ba’anah, a Netophati, Ittai Ben Rivai out of Giveah of the Bnei Binyamin,
30 Benayah the Pirathoni, Hiddai of the ravines of Ga’ash,
