David’s Song of Praise
22 David sang the words of this song to the Lord. He sang them when the Lord saved him from the power of all his enemies and of Saul. 2 He said,
“The Lord is my rock and my fort. He is the God who saves me.
3 My God is my rock. I go to him for safety.
He is like a shield to me. He’s the power that saves me.
He’s my place of safety. I go to him for help. He’s my Savior.
He saves me from those who want to hurt me.
4 I called out to the Lord. He is worthy of praise.
He saved me from my enemies.
5 “The waves of death were all around me.
A destroying flood swept over me.
6 The ropes of the grave were tight around me.
Death set its trap in front of me.
7 When I was in trouble I called out to the Lord.
I called out to my God.
From his temple he heard my voice.
My cry for help reached his ears.
8 “The earth trembled and shook.
The pillars of the heavens rocked back and forth.
They trembled because the Lord was angry.
9 Smoke came out of his nose.
Flames of fire came out of his mouth.
Burning coals blazed out of it.
10 He opened the heavens and came down.
Dark clouds were under his feet.
11 He got on the cherubim and flew.
The wings of the wind lifted him up.
12 He covered himself with darkness.
The dark rain clouds of the sky were like a tent around him.
13 From the brightness all around him
flashes of lightning blazed out.
14 The Lord thundered from heaven.
The voice of the Most High God was heard.
15 He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy.
He sent flashes of lightning and chased them away.
16 The bottom of the sea could be seen.
The foundations of the earth were uncovered.
It happened when the Lord’s anger blazed out.
It came like a blast of breath from his nose.
17 “He reached down from heaven. He took hold of me.
He lifted me out of deep waters.
18 He saved me from my powerful enemies.
He set me free from those who were too strong for me.
19 They stood up to me when I was in trouble.
But the Lord helped me.
20 He brought me out into a wide and safe place.
He saved me because he was pleased with me.
21 “The Lord has been good to me because I do what is right.
He has rewarded me because I lead a pure life.
22 I have lived the way the Lord wanted me to.
I’m not guilty of turning away from my God.
23 I keep all his laws in mind.
I haven’t turned away from his commands.
24 He knows that I am without blame.
He knows I’ve kept myself from sinning.
25 The Lord has rewarded me for doing what is right.
He has rewarded me because I haven’t done anything wrong.
26 “Lord, to those who are faithful you show that you are faithful.
To those who are without blame you show that you are without blame.
27 To those who are pure you show that you are pure.
But to those whose paths are crooked you show that you are clever.
28 You save those who aren’t proud.
But you watch the proud to bring them down.
29 Lord, you are my lamp.
You bring light into my darkness.
30 With your help I can attack a troop of soldiers.
With the help of my God I can climb over a wall.
31 “God’s way is perfect.
The Lord’s word doesn’t have any flaws.
He protects like a shield
all who go to him for safety.
32 Who is God except the Lord?
Who is the Rock except our God?
33 God gives me strength for the battle.
He keeps my way secure.
34 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer.
He causes me to stand on the highest places.
35 He trains my hands to fight every battle.
My arms can bend a bow of bronze.
36 Lord, you shield me with your saving help.
Your help has made me great.
37 You give me a wide path to walk in
so that I don’t twist my ankles.
38 “I chased my enemies and crushed them.
I didn’t turn back until they were destroyed.
39 I crushed them completely so that they couldn’t get up.
They fell under my feet.
40 Lord, you gave me strength to fight the battle.
You caused my enemies to be humble in front of me.
41 You made them turn their backs and run away.
So I destroyed my enemies.
42 They cried out for help. But there was no one to save them.
They called out to the Lord. But he didn’t answer them.
43 I beat them as fine as the dust of the earth.
I pounded them and walked on them like mud in the streets.
44 “You saved me when people attacked me.
You have kept me as the ruler over nations.
People I didn’t know serve me now.
45 People from other lands bow down to me in fear.
As soon as they hear about me, they obey me.
46 All of them give up hope.
They come trembling out of their hiding places.
47 “The Lord lives! Give praise to my Rock!
Give honor to my God, the Rock! He is my Savior!
48 He is the God who pays back my enemies.
He brings the nations under my control.
49 He sets me free from my enemies.
You have honored me more than them.
You have saved me from a man who wanted to hurt me.
50 Lord, I will praise you among the nations.
I will sing your praise.
51 He gives his king great victories.
He shows his faithful love to his anointed king.
He shows it to David and his family forever.”

22 Then David (B)spoke to the Lord the words of this song, on the day when the Lord had (C)delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. 2 And he (D)said:
(E)“The Lord is my rock and my (F)fortress and my deliverer;
3 The God of my strength, (G)in whom I will trust;
My (H)shield and the (I)horn[a] of my salvation,
My (J)stronghold and my (K)refuge;
My Savior, You save me from violence.
4 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.
5 “When the waves of death surrounded me,
The floods of ungodliness [b]made me afraid.
6 The (L)sorrows of Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.
7 In my distress (M)I called upon the Lord,
And cried out to my God;
He (N)heard my voice from His temple,
And my cry entered His ears.
8 “Then (O)the earth shook and trembled;
(P)The foundations of [c]heaven quaked and were shaken,
Because He was angry.
9 Smoke went up from His nostrils,
And devouring (Q)fire from His mouth;
Coals were kindled by it.
10 He (R)bowed the heavens also, and came down

11 He rode upon a cherub, and flew;

12 He made (U)darkness canopies around Him,
Dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.
13 From the brightness before Him
Coals of fire were kindled.
14 “The Lord (V)thundered from heaven,
And the Most High uttered His voice.

Lightning bolts, and He vanquished them.
16 Then the channels of the sea (X)were seen,
The foundations of the world were uncovered,
At the (Y)rebuke of the Lord,
At the blast of the breath of His nostrils.
17 “He(Z) sent from above, He took me,
He drew me out of many waters.
18 He delivered me from my strong enemy,
From those who hated me;
For they were too strong for me.
19 They confronted me in the day of my calamity,
But the Lord was my (AA)support.
20 (AB)He also brought me out into a broad place;
He delivered me because He (AC)delighted in me.
21 “The(AD) Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the (AE)cleanness of my hands
He has recompensed me.
22 For I have (AF)kept the ways of the Lord,
And have not wickedly departed from my God.
23 For all His (AG)judgments were before me;
And as for His statutes, I did not depart from them.
24 I was also (AH)blameless before Him,
And I kept myself from my iniquity.
25 Therefore (AI)the Lord has [e]recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to [f]my cleanness in His eyes.
26 “With (AJ)the merciful You will show Yourself merciful;
With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless;
27 With the pure You will show Yourself pure;
And (AK)with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd.
28 You will save the (AL)humble[g] people;
But Your eyes are on (AM)the haughty, that You may bring them down.
29 “For You are my (AN)lamp, O Lord;
The Lord shall enlighten my darkness.
30 For by You I can run against a troop;
By my God I can leap over a (AO)wall.
31 As for God, (AP)His way is perfect;
(AQ)The word of the Lord is proven;
He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
32 “For (AR)who is God, except the Lord?
And who is a rock, except our God?
33 [h]God is my (AS)strength and power,
And He (AT)makes [i]my way (AU)perfect.
34 He makes [j]my feet (AV)like the feet of deer,
And (AW)sets me on my high places.
35 He teaches my hands [k]to make war,
So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
36 “You have also given me the shield of Your salvation;
Your gentleness has made me great.
37 You (AX)enlarged my path under me;
So my feet did not slip.
38 “I have pursued my enemies and destroyed them;
Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed.
39 And I have destroyed them and wounded them,
So that they could not rise;
They have fallen (AY)under my feet.
40 For You have (AZ)armed me with strength for the battle;
You have [l]subdued under me (BA)those who rose against me.
41 You have also [m]given me the (BB)necks of my enemies,
So that I destroyed those who hated me.
42 They looked, but there was none to save;
Even (BC)to the Lord, but He did not answer them.
43 Then I beat them as fine (BD)as the dust of the earth;
I trod them (BE)like dirt in the streets,
And I [n]spread them out.
44 “You(BF) have also delivered me from the [o]strivings of my people;
You have kept me as the (BG)head of the nations.
(BH)A people I have not known shall serve me.
45 The foreigners submit to me;
As soon as they hear, they obey me.
46 The foreigners fade away,
And [p]come frightened (BI)from their hideouts.
47 “The Lord lives!
Blessed be my Rock!
Let God be exalted,
The (BJ)Rock of my salvation!
48 It is God who avenges me,
And (BK)subdues the peoples under me;
49 He delivers me from my enemies.
You also lift me up above those who rise against me;
You have delivered me from the (BL)violent man.
50 Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among (BM)the Gentiles,
And sing praises to Your (BN)name.
51 “He(BO) is the tower of salvation to His king,
And shows mercy to His (BP)anointed,
To David and (BQ)his descendants forevermore.”

22 Bấy giờ Ða-vít dâng lên Chúa những lời ca ngợi nầy, sau ngày Chúa giải cứu ông khỏi tay mọi kẻ thù và khỏi tay của Sau-lơ. 2 Ông nói,[a]
“Chúa là vầng đá của tôi,
Ðồn lũy của tôi, và Ðấng Giải Cứu của tôi.
3 Ðức Chúa Trời là vầng đá của tôi; tôi nương náu nơi Ngài.
Ngài là thuẫn khiên của tôi và là sừng cứu rỗi của tôi;
Ngài là thành trì của tôi và là nơi tôi ẩn náu.
‘Lạy Ðấng Giải Cứu của con,
Ngài cứu con khỏi quân cường bạo.’
4 Tôi sẽ kêu cầu Chúa, Ðấng đáng được ca ngợi,
Ðể tôi sẽ được cứu khỏi những kẻ thù ghét mình.
5 Khi những đợt sóng của tử thần bao phủ tôi;
Những dòng nước lũ của phường gian ác làm tôi kinh hãi;
6 Các dây của âm phủ trói cột tôi;
Các bẫy của tử thần sập xuống bắt lấy tôi.
7 Trong cảnh nguy nan tôi kêu cầu Chúa;
Tôi kêu van với Ðức Chúa Trời của tôi.

17 Từ trời cao Ngài vói tay xuống nắm lấy tôi;

Ngài cứu tôi thoát khỏi những kẻ ghét tôi;
Vì đối với tôi chúng thật là mạnh mẽ.
19 Chúng đối đầu với tôi giữa lúc tôi lâm cảnh nguy nan,
Nhưng Chúa đã giúp đỡ tôi.
20 Ngài đã đem tôi ra một nơi an toàn thoải mái;
Ngài đã giải cứu tôi, vì Ngài thấy tôi đẹp lòng Ngài.
21 Chúa đã ban thưởng cho tôi tùy theo lòng ngay lành của tôi;
Ngài đã đền bù cho tôi, tùy theo sự thanh sạch của tay tôi.
22 Vì tôi đã gìn giữ các đường lối Chúa;
Tôi đã không làm gì xấu xa gian ác nghịch lại Ðức Chúa Trời của mình.
23 Vì các mạng lịnh Ngài hằng ở trước mặt tôi;
Còn các luật lệ Ngài tôi không bao giờ từ bỏ.
24 Tôi luôn giữ mình cho trọn vẹn trước mặt Ngài;
Tôi gìn giữ chính mình khỏi những gì tội lỗi.
25 Vì thế Chúa đã ban thưởng cho tôi tùy theo lòng ngay lành của tôi,
Tùy theo sự trong sạch của tôi ở trước thánh nhan Ngài.
26 Ðối với người có lòng thương xót, Ngài lấy ơn thương xót mà đối với họ;[c]
Ðối với người trọn vẹn, Ngài bày tỏ cho họ thế nào là trọn vẹn theo tiêu chuẩn của Ngài;
27 Ðối với người trong sạch,
Ngài cho họ biết sự trong sạch theo chuẩn mực của Ngài phải ra sao;
Ðối với những kẻ gian manh,
Ngài cho chúng biết chúng không thể qua mặt được Ngài.[d]
28 Ngài sẽ cứu giúp những người khốn khổ;
Nhưng mắt Ngài sẽ theo dõi những kẻ kiêu ngạo, để hạ chúng xuống.
29 Lạy Chúa, vì Ngài là ngọn đèn của con;
Chúa biến hoàn cảnh tối tăm của con trở nên sáng sủa.
30 Vì nhờ Chúa, con có thể xông qua một đạo quân;
Nhờ Ðức Chúa Trời của con, con có thể vượt qua được tường thành.
31 Lạy Ðức Chúa Trời, đường lối Ngài thật là toàn hảo;
Lời Chúa thật linh nghiệm vô cùng.
Ngài là thuẫn khiên cho những ai tin cậy Ngài.
32 Vì ngoài Chúa ra, ai là Ðức Chúa Trời?
Ngoài Ðức Chúa Trời ra, ai là Vầng Ðá của chúng ta?
33 Ðức Chúa Trời là thành trì và sức mạnh của tôi.
Ngài làm cho đường lối tôi trở nên trọn vẹn.
34 Ngài làm cho chân tôi nhanh nhẹn tựa chân nai.
Ngài lập cho tôi được vững vàng trên những nơi cao.
35 Ngài luyện tập tay tôi cho ngày chiến trận,
Ðể đôi tay tôi có thể giương nổi một cây cung đồng.
36 Ngài đã ban cho con ơn cứu rỗi của Ngài, để làm thuẫn khiên che chở;
Cách Ngài đối xử dịu dàng với con đã làm cho con được tôn trọng.
37 Ðường con đi Ngài mở toang rộng rãi;
Nên chân con chẳng trợt ngã bao giờ.
38 Con đuổi theo những kẻ thù của con và tiêu diệt chúng;
Con không quay trở về cho đến khi chúng bị tiêu diệt hoàn toàn.
39 Con đã tiêu diệt chúng và đập tan chúng, khiến chúng không ngóc dậy được nữa;
Chúng đã bị ngã gục dưới chân con.
40 Vì Ngài đã nai nịt cho con bằng sức mạnh để ra trận;
Ngài đã làm cho những kẻ nổi dậy chống con phải quỳ lạy dưới chân con.
41 Ngài khiến quân thù của con phải quay lưng bỏ chạy;
Và cho con tiêu diệt những kẻ ghét con.
42 Chúng trông ngóng, nhưng chẳng ai cứu giúp;
Chúng cũng kêu cầu Chúa, nhưng Ngài chẳng đáp lời.
43 Bấy giờ con đánh chúng tan tành như bụi đất;
Con giày đạp chúng và rải chúng ra như bùn ở ngoài đường.
44 Ngài đã giải thoát con khỏi các cuộc chống đối của dân con;
Ngài đã giữ con làm thủ lãnh của các quốc gia;
Một dân con chưa biết sẽ phục vụ con.
45 Những người ngoại quốc thuận phục con;
Vừa khi nghe đến con, họ liền vâng phục.
46 Quân ngoại bang đều hồn phi phách tán;
Từ trong các chiến lũy chúng run rẩy kéo ra hàng.
47 Chúa là Ðấng hằng sống!
Chúc tụng Vầng Ðá của tôi!
Nguyện Ðức Chúa Trời, Vầng Ðá cứu rỗi của tôi, được tôn cao!
48 Chính Ðức Chúa Trời đã báo thù cho tôi;
Ngài đã bắt thiên hạ phục dưới quyền tôi.
49 Lạy Ðấng giải cứu con khỏi những kẻ thù của con,
Thật vậy Ngài đã nâng con lên trên những kẻ nổi lên chống lại con;
Ngài đã giải cứu con khỏi kẻ bạo tàn.
50 Vì thế, lạy Chúa, con sẽ chúc tạ Ngài ở giữa các dân;
Con sẽ hát ca chúc tụng danh Ngài.
51 Ngài là tháp cứu rỗi[e] cho người Ngài lập làm vua;
Ngài bày tỏ lòng thương xót đối với người được xức dầu của Ngài,
Tức với Ða-vít và dòng dõi của người ấy đến đời đời.”

22 David sang(B) to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. 2 He said:
“The Lord is my rock,(C) my fortress(D) and my deliverer;(E)
3 my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,(F)
my shield[a](G) and the horn[b](H) of my salvation.
He is my stronghold,(I) my refuge and my savior—
from violent people you save me.
4 “I called to the Lord, who is worthy(J) of praise,
and have been saved from my enemies.

the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.

48 He is the God who avenges(CA) me,(CB)
who puts the nations under me,
49 who sets me free from my enemies.(CC)
You exalted me(CD) above my foes;
from a violent man you rescued me.
50 Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing the praises(CE) of your name.(CF)
