² I will come upon him while he is ^(A)weary and discouraged and throw him into a panic, and all the people who are with him will flee. ^(B)I will strike down only the king,

³¹ Now the king of Syria had commanded ^(A)the thirty-two captains of his chariots, “Fight with neither small nor great, but only with the king of Israel.”

¹⁴ And the king, and all the people who were with him, ^(A)arrived weary at the Jordan.^[a] And there he refreshed himself.

⁵⁰ Nor do you understand that ^(A)it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.”

³¹ Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written, ‘I will ^(A)strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’

The Shepherd Struck

³⁸ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ^(A)‘This is the heir. Come, ^(B)let us kill him and have his inheritance.’

¹⁸ how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and ^(A)cut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God.

⁴ Then Jesus, ^(A)knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, ^(B)“Whom do you seek?” ⁵ They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.”^[a] Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. ^6 (C)When Jesus^[b] said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. ⁷ So he asked them again, ^(D)“Whom do you seek?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” ⁸ Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. So, if you seek me, let these men go.”
