Ziba, a False Servant
16 Now when David had gone on (A)a little beyond the summit, behold, (B)Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him (C)with a team of saddled donkeys, and on them were two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred cakes of raisins, a hundred summer fruits, and a jug of wine. 2 And the king said to Ziba, “Why do you have these?” And Ziba said, “(D)The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride, the bread and summer fruit are for the young men to eat, and the wine, (E)for whoever is weary in the wilderness to drink.” 3 Then the king said, “And where is (F)your master’s son?” And (G)Ziba said to the king, “Behold, he is staying in Jerusalem, for he said, ‘Today the house of Israel will restore the kingdom of my father to me.’” 4 So the king said to Ziba, “Behold, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours.” And Ziba said, “I prostrate myself; may I find favor in your sight, my lord, the king!”
David Is Cursed
5 When King David came to (H)Bahurim, behold, a man was coming out from there from the family of the house of Saul, and (I)his name was Shimei, the son of Gera; he was coming out, (J)cursing as he came. 6 He also threw stones at David and all the servants of King David; and all the people and all the warriors were on his right and on his left. 7 This is what Shimei said when he cursed: “Go away, go away, (K)you man of bloodshed and worthless man! 8 (L)The Lord has brought back upon you all (M)the bloodshed of the house of Saul, in whose place you have become king; and the Lord has handed the kingdom over to your son Absalom. And behold, you are caught in your own evil, for you are a man of bloodshed!”
9 Then (N)Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should (O)this dead dog (P)curse my lord the king? Now let me go over and [a]cut off his head.” 10 But the king said, “[b](Q)What business of mine is yours, you sons of Zeruiah? (R)If he curses, and if the Lord has told him, ‘Curse David,’ (S)then who should say, ‘Why have you done so?’” 11 Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants, “Behold, (T)my son who came out of my own body seeks my life; how much more now this Benjaminite? Leave him alone and let him curse, (U)for the Lord has told him. 12 Perhaps the Lord will look on my [c]misery and [d](V)return good to me instead of his cursing this day.” 13 So David and his men went on the road; and Shimei kept going on the hillside close beside him, and as he went he cursed and threw stones and dirt at him. 14 And the king and all the people who were with him arrived exhausted, and he refreshed himself there.
Absalom Enters Jerusalem
15 (W)Then Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, entered Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him. 16 Now it came about, when (X)Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, came to Absalom, that (Y)Hushai said to Absalom, “(Z)Long live the king! Long live the king!” 17 But Absalom said to Hushai, “Is this your [e]loyalty to your friend? (AA)Why did you not go with your friend?” 18 So Hushai said to Absalom, “No! For whomever the Lord, this people, and all the men of Israel have chosen, his I shall be, and with him I shall remain. 19 Besides, (AB)whom should I serve? Should I not serve in the presence of his son? Just as I have served in your father’s presence, so I shall be in your presence.”
20 Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Give your advice. What should we do?” 21 Ahithophel said to Absalom, “(AC)Have relations with your father’s concubines, whom he has left behind to take care of the house; then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself repulsive to your father. The hands of all who are with you will also be strengthened.” 22 So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, (AD)and Absalom had relations with his father’s concubines (AE)in the sight of all Israel. 23 Now (AF)the advice of Ahithophel, which he [f]gave in those days, was taken as though one inquired of the word of God; (AG)so was all the advice of Ahithophel regarded by both David and Absalom.

David and Ziba
16 When David had gone a short distance beyond the summit, there was Ziba,(A) the steward of Mephibosheth, waiting to meet him. He had a string of donkeys saddled and loaded with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred cakes of raisins, a hundred cakes of figs and a skin of wine.(B)
2 The king asked Ziba, “Why have you brought these?”
Ziba answered, “The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on, the bread and fruit are for the men to eat, and the wine is to refresh(C) those who become exhausted in the wilderness.”
3 The king then asked, “Where is your master’s grandson?”(D)
Ziba(E) said to him, “He is staying in Jerusalem, because he thinks, ‘Today the Israelites will restore to me my grandfather’s kingdom.’”
4 Then the king said to Ziba, “All that belonged to Mephibosheth(F) is now yours.”
“I humbly bow,” Ziba said. “May I find favor in your eyes, my lord the king.”
Shimei Curses David
5 As King David approached Bahurim,(G) a man from the same clan as Saul’s family came out from there. His name was Shimei(H) son of Gera, and he cursed(I) as he came out. 6 He pelted David and all the king’s officials with stones, though all the troops and the special guard were on David’s right and left. 7 As he cursed, Shimei said, “Get out, get out, you murderer, you scoundrel! 8 The Lord has repaid you for all the blood you shed in the household of Saul, in whose place you have reigned.(J) The Lord has given the kingdom into the hands of your son Absalom. You have come to ruin because you are a murderer!”(K)
9 Then Abishai(L) son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog(M) curse my lord the king? Let me go over and cut off his head.”(N)
10 But the king said, “What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah?(O) If he is cursing because the Lord said to him, ‘Curse David,’ who can ask, ‘Why do you do this?’”(P)
11 David then said to Abishai and all his officials, “My son,(Q) my own flesh and blood, is trying to kill me. How much more, then, this Benjamite! Leave him alone; let him curse, for the Lord has told him to.(R) 12 It may be that the Lord will look upon my misery(S) and restore to me his covenant blessing(T) instead of his curse today.(U)”
13 So David and his men continued along the road while Shimei was going along the hillside opposite him, cursing as he went and throwing stones at him and showering him with dirt. 14 The king and all the people with him arrived at their destination exhausted.(V) And there he refreshed himself.
The Advice of Ahithophel and Hushai
15 Meanwhile, Absalom(W) and all the men of Israel came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel(X) was with him. 16 Then Hushai(Y) the Arkite, David’s confidant, went to Absalom and said to him, “Long live the king! Long live the king!”
17 Absalom said to Hushai, “So this is the love you show your friend? If he’s your friend, why didn’t you go with him?”(Z)
18 Hushai said to Absalom, “No, the one chosen by the Lord, by these people, and by all the men of Israel—his I will be, and I will remain with him. 19 Furthermore, whom should I serve? Should I not serve the son? Just as I served your father, so I will serve you.”(AA)
20 Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Give us your advice. What should we do?”
21 Ahithophel answered, “Sleep with your father’s concubines whom he left to take care of the palace. Then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself obnoxious to your father, and the hands of everyone with you will be more resolute.” 22 So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and he slept with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.(AB)
23 Now in those days the advice(AC) Ahithophel gave was like that of one who inquires of God. That was how both David(AD) and Absalom regarded all of Ahithophel’s advice.

2 And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.
3 And the king said, And where is thy master's son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, To day shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.
4 Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine are all that pertained unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in thy sight, my lord, O king.
5 And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.
6 And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.
7 And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:
8 The Lord hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the Lord hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a bloody man.
9 Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.
10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the Lord hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?
11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the Lord hath bidden him.
12 It may be that the Lord will look on mine affliction, and that the Lord will requite me good for his cursing this day.
13 And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.
14 And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.
15 And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.
16 And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king.
17 And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend?
18 And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the Lord, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.
19 And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father's presence, so will I be in thy presence.
20 Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.
21 And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father's concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong.
22 So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.
23 And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

16 (A)Awo Dawudi bwe yali ng’atambuddeko ebbanga ttono n’okuva awaali olusiisira, Ziba omuddu wa Mefibosesi n’ajja okumusisinkana. Yalina endogoyi bbiri eziriko amatandiiko, nga zeetisse emigaati ebikumi bibiri, n’ebirimba eby’ezabbibu enkalu kikumi, n’ebirimba eby’ebibala eby’ekyeya kikumi, n’ekita kya wayini. 2 (B)Kabaka n’abuuza Ziba nti, “Bino oleese bya ki?” Ziba n’addamu nti, “Endogoyi za ba mu nnyumba ya kabaka okwebagalanga, n’emigaati n’ebibala bya bavubuka okulya, ne wayini, w’abo abaliyongobera mu ddungu.”
3 (C)Kabaka n’amubuuza nti, “Ate muzzukulu wa mukama wo ali ludda wa?” Ziba n’amuddamu nti, “Yasigadde mu Yerusaalemi, kubanga yalowoozezza nti, ‘Leero ennyumba ya Isirayiri eneenziriza obwakabaka bwa jjajjange.’ ”
4 Awo kabaka n’agamba Ziba nti, “Byonna ebibadde ebya Mefibosesi, kaakano bibyo.” Ziba n’ayogera nti, “Neeyanzizza, era ŋŋanje mu maaso go, mukama wange kabaka.”
Simeeyi Akolimira Dawudi
5 (D)Awo kabaka Dawudi bwe yali ng’anaatera okutuuka e Bakulimu ne wajja omusajja ow’omu kika ky’ennyumba ya Sawulo erinnya lye Simeeyi mutabani wa Gera; n’akolima nga bw’asembera okumpi ne we baali. 6 N’akasuukirira Dawudi n’abakungu ba kabaka amayinja, naye abaserikale bonna n’abakuumi ba Dawudi nga bamwetoolodde ku luuyi lwe olwa ddyo ne ku luuyi lwe olwa kkono. 7 Simeeyi n’akolima, nga bw’ayogera nti, “Fuluma, vva wano, ggwe omusajja eyasaaba omusaayi, era ataliiko bw’ali! 8 (E)Mukama akusasudde olw’omusaayi gwonna gwe wayiwa mu nnyumba ya Sawulo, gwe waddira mu bigere. Mukama obwakabaka abugabidde mutabani wo Abusaalomu. Laba ekikutuusizza kw’ekyo, kubanga engalo zo zijjudde omusaayi!”
9 (F)Awo Abisaayi mutabani wa Zeruyiya[a] n’agamba kabaka nti, “Lwaki embwa eyo enfu ekolimira mukama wange kabaka? Leka ŋŋende mmutemeko omutwe.” 10 (G)Naye kabaka n’ayogera nti, “Luganda ki lwe nnina nammwe, mmwe batabani ba Zeruyiya? Bw’aba ng’ankolimira kubanga Mukama ye yamugambye nti, ‘Kolimira Dawudi,’ ani ayinza okubuuza nti, ‘Kiki ekikukoza bw’otyo?’ ”
11 (H)Awo Dawudi n’agamba Abisaayi n’abakungu be bonna nti, “Obanga mutabani wange, ow’omusaayi gwange agezaako okunzita, naye ate Omubenyamini oyo. Mumuleke, akolime, kubanga Mukama amulagidde. 12 (I)Oboolyawo Mukama anaalaba okunakuwala kwange n’ansasula obulungi olw’okukolima okwo.”
13 Awo Dawudi n’abasajja be ne bagenda ku lugendo lwabwe, naye Simeeyi n’ayitira ku lusozi okumwolekera nga bw’akolima, nga bw’amukasuukirira amayinja n’enfuufu. 14 (J)Kabaka n’abantu bonna abaali naye ne batuuka gye baali bagenda nga bakooye. N’aweereraweerera eyo.
Amagezi Kusaayi ne Akisoferi ge baawa
15 (K)Mu kiseera kye kimu, Abusaalomu n’abantu bonna aba Isirayiri ne bajja e Yerusaalemi, ne Akisoferi n’ajja naye. 16 (L)Awo Kusaayi Omwaluki, mukwano gwa Dawudi, n’ajja eri Abusaalomu n’ayogera nti, “Kabaka awangaale! Kabaka awangaale!” 17 (M)Abusaalomu n’abuuza Kusaayi nti, “Bw’otyo bw’olaga okwagala eri mukwano gwo Kabaka Dawudi? Kiki ekyakulobedde okugenda ne mukwano gwo?”
18 Kusaayi n’addamu Abusaalomu nti, “Nedda. Oyo Mukama gw’anaalonda, n’abantu bano, n’abasajja bonna aba Isirayiri, n’abanga wuwe era n’abeeranga naye. 19 (N)Era nate n’aweereza ani okuggyako mutabani we? Nga bwe naweerezanga kitaawo, bwe ntyo bwe nnaakuweerezanga.” 20 Abusaalomu n’agamba Akisoferi nti, “Tuwe ku magezi. Tunaakola tutya?”
21 Akisoferi n’addamu nti, “Weebake n’abakyala ba kitaawo be yalekawo okulabirira olubiri. Isirayiri yenna bwe banaawulira ng’ofuuse ekyenyinyalwa eri kitaawo, banaddamu amaanyi.” 22 (O)Awo ne basimbira Abusaalomu eweema waggulu ku nnyumba ne yeebaka n’abakyala ba kitaawe, nga Isirayiri yenna balaba.
23 (P)Mu biro ebyo okuteesa kwa Akisoferi, kwatwalibwanga okuba nga kuva eri Katonda, era Dawudi ne Abusaalomu bwe batyo bwe baatwalanga okuteesa kwe.

16 (A) När David hade gått ett stycke från bergstoppen kom Siba, Mefiboshets tjänare, emot honom med ett par packåsnor som bar tvåhundra bröd, hundra russinkakor, hundra fruktkakor och en lägel vin. 2 Kungen frågade honom: ”Varför har du med dig detta?” Siba svarade: ”Åsnorna är för kungens familj att rida på, brödet och fruktkakorna för tjänarna att äta och vinet för dem som blir utmattade i öknen att dricka.”
3 (B) Kungen sade: ”Men var är din herres son?” Siba svarade kungen: ”Han är kvar i Jerusalem, för han tänkte: I dag ska Israels hus ge mig tillbaka min fars rike.” 4 Då sade kungen till Siba: ”Allt vad Mefiboshet äger ska vara ditt.” Siba svarade: ”Jag bugar mig till jorden. Låt mig finna nåd inför dina ögon, min herre kung.”
Shimei förbannar David
5 (C) När kung David hade kommit till Bahurim[a], kom det ut en man därifrån som var släkt med Sauls hus. Han hette Shimei och var son till Gera. Han kom fram och for ut i förbannelser. 6 Han kastade sten på David och alla kung Davids tjänare, trots att allt folket och alla hjältarna omgav kungen både till höger och till vänster. 7 Shimei förbannade David och sade: ”Försvinn, försvinn! Du blodsman, du fördärvets man! 8 Herren har låtit allt blod från Sauls hus komma tillbaka över dig, du som blev kung i hans ställe. Herren ger nu kungadömet i din son Absaloms hand. Se hur din ondska har drabbat dig, för du är en blodsman.”
9 (D) Då sade Abishaj, Serujas son, till kungen: ”Varför ska den där döda hunden få förbanna min herre kungen? Låt mig gå bort och hugga huvudet av honom.” 10 (E) Men kungen sade: ”Vad har jag med er att göra, ni Serujas söner? Låt honom förbanna. För om Herren har befallt honom att förbanna David, vem kan då säga: Varför gör du så?” 11 David sade vidare till Abishaj och alla sina tjänare: ”Se, min son som har utgått från mitt eget liv försöker döda mig. Skulle då inte en benjaminit vilja det? Låt honom vara och låt honom förbanna, för Herren har befallt honom det. 12 Kanske ska Herren se till mitt elände så att Herren vänder hans förbannelse i dag till något gott för mig.” 13 David fortsatte med sina män på vägen fram medan Shimei gick jämsides med honom längs berget och förbannade och kastade stenar och jord efter honom. 14 Kungen och allt folket som följde honom kom fram utmattade, och han vilade ut där.
Ahitofels råd
15 Men Absalom hade kommit till Jerusalem med allt sitt folk, Israels män, och Ahitofel var med honom. 16 (F) När nu arkiten Hushaj, Davids vän, kom till Absalom ropade Hushaj till honom: ”Leve kungen! Leve kungen!” 17 Absalom sade till Hushaj: ”Är det så du visar trofasthet mot din vän? Varför har du inte följt med din vän?” 18 Hushaj svarade Absalom: ”Nej, den som Herren och folket och alla Israels män har utvalt, honom vill jag tillhöra och hos honom vill jag stanna.
19 Och dessutom, vem skulle jag tjäna om inte hans son? Så som jag tjänat din far vill jag tjäna dig.” 20 Absalom sade till Ahitofel: ”Vad råder du oss att göra?” 21 (G) Ahitofel sade till Absalom: ”Gå in till din fars bihustrur som han lämnade kvar för att se efter huset. Då får hela Israel höra att du gjort dig förhatlig för din far, och det styrker modet hos alla som är med dig.” 22 (H) De slog upp ett tält åt Absalom på taket, och Absalom gick in till sin fars bihustrur inför ögonen på hela Israel.
23 På den tiden ansågs Ahitofels råd lika mycket värt som om man hade frågat Guds ord. Så högt värdesatte både David och Absalom hans råd.
