⁷And when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the host of ^(A)the mighty men. ⁸And the Ammonites came out and drew up in battle array at the entrance of the gate, and ^(B)the Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob and ^(C)the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the open country.

⁹When Joab saw that the battle was set against him both in front and in the rear, he chose some of the best men of Israel and arrayed them against the Syrians.

⁷When David heard about this, he sent Joab and all the army, the warriors. ⁸And the sons of Ammon came out and lined up for battle ^(A)at the entrance of the ^[a]city, while the Arameans of Zobah and of Rehob and the men of ^(B)Tob and Maacah were stationed by themselves in the field.

⁹Now when Joab saw that ^[b]the battle was set against him at the front and at the rear, he selected warriors from all the choice men in Israel, and lined them up against the Arameans.

⁷On hearing this, David sent Joab^(A) out with the entire army of fighting men. ⁸The Ammonites came out and drew up in battle formation at the entrance of their city gate, while the Arameans of Zobah and Rehob and the men of Tob and Maakah were by themselves in the open country.

⁹Joab saw that there were battle lines in front of him and behind him; so he selected some of the best troops in Israel and deployed them against the Arameans.
