David oye de la muerte de Saúl
1 Sucedió que después de la muerte de Saúl(A), habiendo regresado David de la derrota[a] de los amalecitas, David permaneció dos días en Siclag(B). 2 Y[b] al tercer día, he aquí, un hombre llegó del campamento de Saúl(C) con sus ropas rasgadas y polvo[c] sobre su cabeza(D), y[d] al llegar ante David, cayó en tierra y se postró(E). 3 Y David le dijo: ¿De dónde vienes? Y él le respondió: Me he escapado del campamento de Israel. 4 David le preguntó[e]: ¿Qué aconteció(F)? Te ruego que me lo digas. Y él respondió[f]: El pueblo ha huido de la batalla, y también muchos del pueblo han caído y han muerto; también Saúl y su hijo Jonatán han muerto. 5 Dijo David al joven que se lo había contado: ¿Cómo sabes que Saúl y su hijo Jonatán han muerto? 6 El joven que se lo había contado, dijo: Yo estaba por casualidad en el monte Gilboa, y he aquí, Saúl estaba apoyado sobre su lanza(G). Y he aquí que los carros y los jinetes lo perseguían de cerca. 7 Al mirar él hacia atrás, me vio y me llamó. Y dije: «Heme aquí». 8 Y él me dijo: «¿Quién eres?». Y le respondí: «Soy amalecita(H)». 9 Entonces él me dijo: «Te ruego que te pongas junto a mí y me mates, pues la agonía se ha apoderado de mí, porque todavía estoy con vida[g]». 10 Me puse, pues, junto a él y lo maté(I), porque yo sabía que él no podía vivir después de haber caído. Tomé la corona(J) que estaba en su cabeza y la pulsera que estaba en su brazo, y los he traído aquí a mi señor.
11 Entonces David agarró sus ropas y las rasgó(K), y así hicieron también todos los hombres que estaban con él. 12 Y se lamentaron y lloraron y ayunaron hasta el atardecer(L) por Saúl y por su hijo Jonatán, por el pueblo del Señor y por la casa de Israel, porque habían caído a espada. 13 Dijo David al joven que se lo había contado: ¿De dónde eres? Y él respondió: Soy hijo de un extranjero, un amalecita(M). 14 Y David le dijo: ¿Cómo es que no tuviste temor de extender tu mano para destruir al ungido del Señor(N)? 15 Llamando David a uno de los jóvenes, le dijo: Ve, mátalo[h]. Y él lo hirió, y murió(O). 16 Y David le dijo: Tu sangre sea sobre tu cabeza(P), porque tu boca ha testificado contra ti, al decir: «Yo he matado al ungido del Señor(Q)».
Elegía de David por Saúl y Jonatán
17 David entonó esta elegía por Saúl y por su hijo Jonatán(R), 18 y ordenó[i] que enseñaran a los hijos de Judá el cántico del arco; he aquí, está escrito en el libro de Jaser(S).
19 Tu[j] hermosura, oh Israel, ha perecido sobre tus montes[k].
¡Cómo han caído los valientes(T)!
20 No lo anunciéis en Gat,
no lo proclaméis en las calles de Ascalón;
para que no se regocijen las hijas de los filisteos(U),
para que no se alegren las hijas de los incircuncisos(V).
21 Oh montes de Gilboa(W),
no haya sobre vosotros rocío ni lluvia, ni campos de ofrendas(X);
porque allí fue deshonrado el escudo de los valientes,
el escudo de Saúl, no ungido con aceite(Y).
22 De la sangre de los muertos, de la grosura de los poderosos,
el arco de Jonatán no volvía atrás,
y la espada(Z) de Saúl no volvía vacía.
23 Saúl y Jonatán, amados y amables en su vida,
y en su muerte no fueron separados;
más ligeros eran que águilas(AA),
más fuertes que leones(AB).
24 Hijas de Israel, llorad por Saúl,
que os vestía lujosamente de escarlata,
que ponía adornos de oro en vuestros vestidos.
25 ¡Cómo han caído los valientes en medio de la batalla(AC)!
Jonatán, muerto en tus alturas.
26 Estoy afligido por ti, Jonatán, hermano mío;
tú me has sido muy estimado.
Tu amor fue para mí más maravilloso
que el amor de las mujeres(AD).
27 ¡Cómo han caído los valientes(AE),
y perecido las armas de guerra(AF)!

David oye de la muerte de Saúl
1 Aconteció después de la muerte de Saúl, que vuelto David de la derrota de los amalecitas, estuvo dos días en Siclag. 2 Al tercer día, sucedió que vino uno del campamento de Saúl, rotos sus vestidos, y tierra sobre su cabeza; y llegando a David, se postró en tierra e hizo reverencia. 3 Y le preguntó David: ¿De dónde vienes? Y él respondió: Me he escapado del campamento de Israel. 4 David le dijo: ¿Qué ha acontecido? Te ruego que me lo digas. Y él respondió: El pueblo huyó de la batalla, y también muchos del pueblo cayeron y son muertos; también Saúl y Jonatán su hijo murieron. 5 Dijo David a aquel joven que le daba las nuevas: ¿Cómo sabes que han muerto Saúl y Jonatán su hijo? 6 El joven que le daba las nuevas respondió: Casualmente vine al monte de Gilboa, y hallé a Saúl que se apoyaba sobre su lanza, y venían tras él carros y gente de a caballo. 7 Y mirando él hacia atrás, me vio y me llamó; y yo dije: Heme aquí. 8 Y me preguntó: ¿Quién eres tú? Y yo le respondí: Soy amalecita. 9 Él me volvió a decir: Te ruego que te pongas sobre mí y me mates, porque se ha apoderado de mí la angustia; pues mi vida está aún toda en mí. 10 Yo entonces me puse sobre él y le maté, porque sabía que no podía vivir después de su caída; y tomé la corona que tenía en su cabeza, y la argolla que traía en su brazo, y las he traído acá a mi señor.(A)
11 Entonces David, asiendo de sus vestidos, los rasgó; y lo mismo hicieron los hombres que estaban con él. 12 Y lloraron y lamentaron y ayunaron hasta la noche, por Saúl y por Jonatán su hijo, por el pueblo de Jehová y por la casa de Israel, porque habían caído a filo de espada. 13 Y David dijo a aquel joven que le había traído las nuevas: ¿De dónde eres tú? Y él respondió: Yo soy hijo de un extranjero, amalecita. 14 Y le dijo David: ¿Cómo no tuviste temor de extender tu mano para matar al ungido de Jehová? 15 Entonces llamó David a uno de sus hombres, y le dijo: Ve y mátalo. Y él lo hirió, y murió. 16 Y David le dijo: Tu sangre sea sobre tu cabeza, pues tu misma boca atestiguó contra ti, diciendo: Yo maté al ungido de Jehová.
David endecha a Saúl y a Jonatán
17 Y endechó David a Saúl y a Jonatán su hijo con esta endecha, 18 y dijo que debía enseñarse a los hijos de Judá. He aquí que está escrito en el libro(B) de Jaser.[a]
19 ¡Ha perecido la gloria de Israel sobre tus alturas!
¡Cómo han caído los valientes!
20 No lo anunciéis en Gat,
Ni deis las nuevas en las plazas de Ascalón;
Para que no se alegren las hijas de los filisteos,
Para que no salten de gozo las hijas de los incircuncisos.
21 Montes de Gilboa,
Ni rocío ni lluvia caiga sobre vosotros, ni seáis tierras de ofrendas;
Porque allí fue desechado el escudo de los valientes,
El escudo de Saúl, como si no hubiera sido ungido con aceite.
22 Sin sangre de los muertos, sin grosura de los valientes,
El arco de Jonatán no volvía atrás,
Ni la espada de Saúl volvió vacía.
23 Saúl y Jonatán, amados y queridos;
Inseparables en su vida, tampoco en su muerte fueron separados;
Más ligeros eran que águilas,
Más fuertes que leones.
24 Hijas de Israel, llorad por Saúl,
Quien os vestía de escarlata con deleites,
Quien adornaba vuestras ropas con ornamentos de oro.
25 ¡Cómo han caído los valientes en medio de la batalla!
¡Jonatán, muerto en tus alturas!
26 Angustia tengo por ti, hermano mío Jonatán,
Que me fuiste muy dulce.
Más maravilloso me fue tu amor
Que el amor de las mujeres.
27 ¡Cómo han caído los valientes,
Han perecido las armas de guerra!

David Hears of Saul’s Death(A)
1 After the death(B) of Saul, David returned from striking down(C) the Amalekites(D) and stayed in Ziklag two days. 2 On the third day a man(E) arrived from Saul’s camp with his clothes torn and dust on his head.(F) When he came to David, he fell(G) to the ground to pay him honor.(H)
3 “Where have you come from?” David asked him.
He answered, “I have escaped from the Israelite camp.”
4 “What happened?” David asked. “Tell me.”
“The men fled from the battle,” he replied. “Many of them fell and died. And Saul and his son Jonathan are dead.”
5 Then David said to the young man who brought him the report, “How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?”
6 “I happened to be on Mount Gilboa,(I)” the young man said, “and there was Saul, leaning on his spear, with the chariots and their drivers in hot pursuit. 7 When he turned around and saw me, he called out to me, and I said, ‘What can I do?’
8 “He asked me, ‘Who are you?’
“‘An Amalekite,(J)’ I answered.
9 “Then he said to me, ‘Stand here by me and kill me!(K) I’m in the throes of death, but I’m still alive.’
10 “So I stood beside him and killed him, because I knew that after he had fallen he could not survive. And I took the crown(L) that was on his head and the band on his arm and have brought them here to my lord.”
11 Then David and all the men with him took hold of their clothes and tore(M) them. 12 They mourned and wept and fasted till evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the army of the Lord and for the nation of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.
13 David said to the young man who brought him the report, “Where are you from?”
“I am the son of a foreigner, an Amalekite,(N)” he answered.
14 David asked him, “Why weren’t you afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?(O)”
15 Then David called one of his men and said, “Go, strike him down!”(P) So he struck him down, and he died.(Q) 16 For David had said to him, “Your blood be on your own head.(R) Your own mouth testified against you when you said, ‘I killed the Lord’s anointed.’”
David’s Lament for Saul and Jonathan
17 David took up this lament(S) concerning Saul and his son Jonathan,(T) 18 and he ordered that the people of Judah be taught this lament of the bow (it is written in the Book of Jashar):(U)
20 “Tell it not in Gath,(X)
proclaim it not in the streets of Ashkelon,(Y)
lest the daughters of the Philistines(Z) be glad,
lest the daughters of the uncircumcised rejoice.(AA)
21 “Mountains of Gilboa,(AB)
may you have neither dew(AC) nor rain,(AD)
may no showers fall on your terraced fields.[b](AE)
For there the shield of the mighty was despised,
the shield of Saul—no longer rubbed with oil.(AF)
22 “From the blood(AG) of the slain,
from the flesh of the mighty,
the bow(AH) of Jonathan did not turn back,
the sword of Saul did not return unsatisfied.
23 Saul and Jonathan—
in life they were loved and admired,
and in death they were not parted.
They were swifter than eagles,(AI)
they were stronger than lions.(AJ)
24 “Daughters of Israel,
weep for Saul,
who clothed you in scarlet and finery,
who adorned your garments with ornaments of gold.(AK)
25 “How the mighty have fallen in battle!
Jonathan lies slain on your heights.
26 I grieve(AL) for you, Jonathan(AM) my brother;(AN)
you were very dear to me.
Your love for me was wonderful,(AO)
more wonderful than that of women.
27 “How the mighty have fallen!
The weapons of war have perished!”(AP)

大衛驚聞掃羅父子的死訊
1 掃羅死後，大衛殺退了亞瑪力人回來，就在洗革拉住了兩天。 2 第三天，忽然有一個人從掃羅的營回來，衣服撕裂，頭上蒙灰。這人一來到大衛面前，就俯伏在地上叩拜他。 3 大衛問他：“你從哪裡來？”他對他說：“我是從以色列的營中逃出來的。” 4 大衛又問他：“情況怎麼樣？請你告訴我！”他回答：“眾人都逃離戰場，他們中間不但有許多人倒地陣亡，連掃羅和他的兒子約拿單也死了。” 5 於是，大衛問那向他報信的年輕人：“你怎麼知道掃羅和他的兒子死了呢？” 6 那個向大衛報信的年輕人回答：“我剛巧在基利波山，看見掃羅靠在自己的矛槍上，又見有戰車和馬兵緊緊地追趕他。 7 他回頭看到我，就呼喚我。我說：‘我在這裡。’ 8 他問我：‘你是誰？’我回答他：‘我是亞瑪力人。’ 9 於是他對我說：‘請你站到我身邊來，把我殺死，因為痛苦抓住我，我卻還死不了。’ 10 我就站到他身邊去，把他殺了，因為我知道他一倒下，就不能再活了。我摘下他頭上的王冠，取下他臂上的手鐲，帶到這裡來奉給我主。”
11 大衛就抓住自己的衣服，把它們全都撕裂。所有與他在一起的人也都是這樣。 12 他們為了掃羅、他的兒子約拿單、耶和華的子民和以色列家的緣故悲哀、哭泣、禁食直到晚上，因為他們已經倒斃在刀下。
報信者死
13 大衛問那向他報信的年輕人：“你是哪裡的人？”他回答：“我是個寄居這地的亞瑪力人的兒子。” 14 大衛對他說：“你伸手毀滅耶和華的受膏者，怎麼還不懼怕呢？” 15 於是大衛叫了一個年輕人來，說：“你上前去，砍倒他。”那年輕人擊殺他，他就死了。 16 大衛對他說：“你流人血的罪要歸到自己的頭上，因為你親口作證指控自己說：‘我殺了耶和華的受膏者。’”
大衛為掃羅和約拿單作哀歌
17 大衛為掃羅和他的兒子約拿單作了這首哀歌。 18 他又吩咐要把這首“弓歌”教導猶大人。（這首歌記錄在《雅煞珥書》上。）
19 “以色列啊！尊榮的人都在高處被殺，
勇士怎麼都已仆倒！
20 你們不要在迦特報道，
不要在亞實基倫的街上宣揚，
免得非利士的女子歡喜，
免得未受割禮之人的女子快樂。
21 基利波的群山啊！
願雨露都不降在你們上面，
願你們的田地不產供物。
因為勇士的盾牌在那裡玷污，
掃羅的盾牌沒有用油抹亮。
22 不見被殺者的血、
勇士的脂油，
約拿單的弓不縮回，
掃羅的劍也不空空返回。
23 掃羅和約拿單，
生時相親相愛，
死時也不分離。
他們比鷹還快速，
比獅子更勇猛。
24 以色列的女子啊！你們要為掃羅哭泣，
他曾給你們穿上朱紅色豪華的衣服，
又給你們的外衣加上金飾。
