^18 (A)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the ^(B)Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were ^[a]chief ministers.

¹⁴ We made an invasion of the southern area of ^(A)the Cherethites, in the territory which belongs to Judah, and of the southern area ^(B)of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.”

^17 (A)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were ^[a]chief ministers at the king’s side.

²³ And ^(A)Joab was over all the army of Israel; Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites;

⁷ So Joab’s men, with the ^(A)Cherethites, the Pelethites, and ^(B)all the mighty men, went out after him. And they went out of Jerusalem to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri.

¹⁸ Then all his servants passed ^[a]before him; ^(A)and all the Cherethites, all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, ^(B)six hundred men who had followed him from Gath, passed before the king.

⁴⁴ The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites; and they have made him ride on the king’s mule.

³⁸ So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, ^(A)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the ^(B)Cherethites, and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule, and took him to Gihon.

²⁰ Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from ^(A)Kabzeel, ^[a]who had done many deeds. ^(B)He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day. ²¹ And he killed an Egyptian, ^[b]a spectacular man. The Egyptian had a spear in his hand; so he went down to him with a staff, wrested the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear. ²² These things Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did, and won a name among three mighty men. ²³ He was more honored than the thirty, but he did not attain to the first three. And David appointed him ^(C)over his guard.
