⁷ Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘I ^(A)anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.

²¹ So David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, ^(A)who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the ^(B)people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord.

¹¹ And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the ^(A)sheep.”

And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not ^[a]sit down till he comes here.” ¹² So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ^(B)ruddy, ^(C)with ^[b]bright eyes, and good-looking. ^(D)And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!”

10 Then ^(A)Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, ^(B)and kissed him and said: “Is it not because ^(C)the Lord has anointed you commander over ^(D)His ^[a]inheritance?

¹⁶ “Tomorrow about this time ^(A)I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, ^(B)and you shall anoint him ^[a]commander over My people Israel, that he may save My people from the hand of the Philistines; for I have ^(C)looked upon My people, because their cry has come to Me.”
