¹¹ from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel, and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house.^(A)

²⁷ For you, O Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have made this revelation to your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house’; therefore your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you.^(A)

God’s Covenant with David

7 Now when the king was settled in his house and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him,^(A)

⁹ But they forgot the Lord their God, and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, commander of the army of King Jabin of^[a] Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.^{(A) 10} Then they cried to the Lord and said, ‘We have sinned, for we have forsaken the Lord and have served the Baals and the Astartes, but now rescue us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve you.’^{(B) 11} And the Lord sent Jerubbaal and Barak,^[b] and Jephthah, and Samson^[c] and rescued you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and you lived in safety.^(C)

¹⁴ So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers who plundered them, and he sold them into the power of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies.^{(A) 15} Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them to bring misfortune, as the Lord had warned them and sworn to them, and they were in great distress.

¹⁶ Then the Lord raised up judges who delivered them out of the power of those who plundered them.^(B)

¹⁰ from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel, and I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the Lord will build you a house.^(A)

³⁸ If you will listen to all that I command you, walk in my ways, and do what is right in my sight by keeping my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did, I will be with you and will build you an enduring house, as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you.^(A)
