¹⁹ Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins^(A) to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women.^(B) And all the people went to their homes.

¹⁰ Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing^(A) prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy^(B) of the Lord is your strength.”

⁸ This is why it^[a] says:

³⁵ In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

¹⁷ It will be the duty of the prince to provide the burnt offerings, grain offerings and drink offerings at the festivals, the New Moons^(A) and the Sabbaths^(B)—at all the appointed festivals of Israel. He will provide the sin offerings,^[a] grain offerings, burnt offerings and fellowship offerings to make atonement for the Israelites.^(C)

¹² They set aside the burnt offerings to give them to the subdivisions of the families of the people to offer to the Lord, as it is written in the Book of Moses. They did the same with the cattle. ¹³ They roasted the Passover animals over the fire as prescribed,^(A) and boiled the holy offerings in pots, caldrons and pans and served them quickly to all the people.

⁷ Josiah provided for all the lay people who were there a total of thirty thousand lambs and goats for the Passover offerings,^(A) and also three thousand cattle—all from the king’s own possessions.^(B)

⁸ His officials also contributed^(C) voluntarily to the people and the priests and Levites. Hilkiah,^(D) Zechariah and Jehiel, the officials in charge of God’s temple, gave the priests twenty-six hundred Passover offerings and three hundred cattle.

²⁴ Hezekiah king of Judah provided^(A) a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep and goats for the assembly, and the officials provided them with a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep and goats. A great number of priests consecrated themselves.

¹⁰ On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things the Lord had done for David and Solomon and for his people Israel.
