¹⁰ So David would not move the ark of the Lord with him into the ^(A)City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the ^(B)Gittite.

⁴ Moreover the sons of ^(A)Obed-Edom were Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth, ⁵ Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peulthai the eighth; for God blessed him.

⁶ Also to Shemaiah his son were sons born who governed their fathers’ houses, because they were men of great ability. ⁷ The sons of Shemaiah were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad, whose brothers Elihu and Semachiah were able men.

⁸ All these were of the sons of Obed-Edom, they and their sons and their brethren, ^(B)able men with strength for the work: sixty-two of Obed-Edom.

⁵ Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, then ^(A)Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, and Obed-Edom: Jeiel with stringed instruments and harps, but Asaph made music with cymbals;

¹⁸ and with them their brethren of the second rank: Zechariah, ^[a]Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Elipheleh, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, the gatekeepers;

¹³ So David would not move the ark with him into the City of David, but took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. ^14 (A)The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house three months. And the Lord blessed ^(B)the house of Obed-Edom and all that he had.

² Then David sent out one third of the people under the hand of Joab, ^(A)one third under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and one third under the hand of ^(B)Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, “I also will surely go out with you myself.”

¹⁹ Then the king said to ^(A)Ittai the Gittite, “Why are you also going with us? Return and remain with the king. For you are a foreigner and also an exile from your own place.

³ because the Beerothites fled to ^(A)Gittaim and have been sojourners there until this day.)
