⁷ And Saul had a concubine, whose name was ^(A)Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. So Ishbosheth said to Abner, “Why have you ^(B)gone in to my father’s concubine?”

⁸ So the king took Armoni and Mephibosheth, the two sons of ^(A)Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, and the five sons of ^[a]Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she ^[b]brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite; ⁹ and he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them on the hill ^(B)before the Lord. So they fell, all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.

¹⁰ Now ^(C)Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it for herself on the rock, ^(D)from the beginning of harvest until the late rains poured on them from heaven. And she did not allow the birds of the air to rest on them by day nor the beasts of the field by night.

¹¹ And David was told what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.

²¹ And Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Go in to your father’s ^(A)concubines, whom he has left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you ^(B)are abhorred by your father. Then ^(C)the hands of all who are with you will be strong.” ²² So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his father’s concubines ^(D)in the sight of all Israel.

²¹ So she said, “Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah your brother as wife.”

²² And King Solomon answered and said to his mother, “Now why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also—for he is my ^(A)older brother—for him, and for ^(B)Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.”

¹⁷ Then he said, “Please speak to King Solomon, for he will not refuse you, that he may give me ^(A)Abishag the Shunammite as wife.”

⁸ I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more!
