⁹ As marauders lie in ambush for a victim,^(A)
    so do bands of priests;
they murder^(B) on the road to Shechem,
    carrying out their wicked schemes.^(C)

¹⁰ Some sat in darkness,^(A) in utter darkness,
    prisoners suffering^(B) in iron chains,^(C)
11 because they rebelled^(D) against God’s commands
    and despised^(E) the plans^(F) of the Most High.

¹⁴ When daylight is gone, the murderer rises up,
    kills^(A) the poor and needy,^(B)
    and in the night steals forth like a thief.^(C)
