David’s Mourning for Abner

³¹ Then David said to Joab and to all the people who were with him, ^(A)“Tear your clothes, ^(B)gird yourselves with sackcloth, and mourn for Abner.” And King David followed the coffin.

³⁴ Then Jacob ^(A)tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his waist, and ^(B)mourned for his son many days.

¹¹ Therefore David took hold of his own clothes and ^(A)tore them, and so did all the men who were with him.

² on the third day, behold, it happened that ^(A)a man came from Saul’s camp ^(B)with his clothes ^[a]torn and dust on his head. So it was, when he came to David, that he ^(C)fell to the ground and prostrated himself.

³⁵ And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he ^(A)tore his clothes, and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low! You are among those who trouble me! For I ^(B)have ^[a]given my word to the Lord, and ^(C)I cannot ^[b]go back on it.”

⁶ Then Joshua ^(A)tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the Lord until evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they ^(B)put dust on their heads.

¹⁴ Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, ^(A)arise.”

Isaiah Assures Deliverance^(A)

19 And ^(B)so it was, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with ^(C)sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord.

²⁹ Then Reuben returned to the pit, and indeed Joseph was not in the pit; and he ^(A)tore his clothes.
