³ David asked the Gibeonites, “What shall I do for you? How shall I make atonement so that you will bless the Lord’s inheritance?”^(A)

¹⁹ We are the peaceful^(A) and faithful in Israel. You are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the Lord’s inheritance?”^(B)

²² In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood,^(A) and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.^(B)

¹⁹ Now let my lord the king listen^(A) to his servant’s words. If the Lord has incited you against me, then may he accept an offering.^(B) If, however, people have done it, may they be cursed before the Lord! They have driven me today from my share in the Lord’s inheritance^(C) and have said, ‘Go, serve other gods.’^(D)

⁴ It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats^(A) to take away sins.^(B)

⁵ Therefore, when Christ came into the world,^(C) he said:

⁸ First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”^(G)—though they were offered in accordance with the law. ⁹ Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.”^(H) He sets aside the first to establish the second. ¹⁰ And by that will, we have been made holy^(I) through the sacrifice of the body^(J) of Jesus Christ once for all.^(K)

¹¹ Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices,^(L) which can never take away sins.^{(M) 12} But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins,^(N) he sat down at the right hand of God,^(O)

²⁵ If one person sins against another, God^[a] may mediate for the offender; but if anyone sins against the Lord, who will^(A) intercede^(B) for them?” His sons, however, did not listen to their father’s rebuke, for it was the Lord’s will to put them to death.

⁴ You are to lay your hand on the head^(A) of the burnt offering,^(B) and it will be accepted^(C) on your behalf to make atonement^(D) for you.

³⁰ The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin.^(A) But now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement^(B) for your sin.”
