¹⁴ They buried the bones of Saul and of his son Jonathan in the land of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of his father Kish; they did all that the king commanded. After that, God heeded supplications for the land.^(A)

²⁵ David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and offerings of well-being. So the Lord answered his supplication for the land, and the plague was averted from Israel.^(A)

²⁸ Zela, Haeleph, Jebus^[a] (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah,^[b] and Kiriath-jearim^[c]—fourteen towns with their villages. This is the inheritance of the tribe of Benjamin according to its families.^(A)

²⁶ and raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day. Then the Lord turned from his burning anger. Therefore that place to this day is called the Valley of Achor.^[a](A)

⁸ Then he cried out to me, “See, those who go toward the north country have set my spirit at rest in the north country.”^(A)

¹⁵ So they picked Jonah up and threw him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging.

Locusts, Fire, and a Plumb Line

7 This is what the Lord God showed me: he was forming locusts at the time the latter growth began to sprout (it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings).^{(A) 2} When they had finished eating the grass of the land, I said,

⁴ This is what the Lord God showed me: the Lord God was calling for judgment by fire, and it devoured the great deep and was eating up the land. ⁵ Then I said,
