Ish-bosheth Made King of Israel

⁸ But ^(A)Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, took Ish-bosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to ^(B)Mahanaim,

⁵⁰ And the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. ^(A)And the name of the commander of his army was Abner the son of Ner, ^(B)Saul's uncle.

² And when Jacob saw them he said, “This is God's ^(A)camp!” So he called the name of that place ^(B)Mahanaim.^[a]

^39 (A)Ner fathered Kish, Kish fathered Saul, Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

^33 (A)Ner was the father of Kish, Kish of Saul, Saul of ^(B)Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab and Eshbaal;

²⁶ And Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead.

²⁷ When David came to Mahanaim, ^(A)Shobi the son of Nahash from ^(B)Rabbah of the Ammonites, and ^(C)Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and ^(D)Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim,

⁵ Now the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, set out, and about the heat of the day they came to the house of Ish-bosheth as he was taking his noonday rest. ⁶ And they came into the midst of the house as if to get wheat, and they stabbed him ^(A)in the stomach. Then Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.^[a]

⁷ Now Saul had a concubine whose name was ^(A)Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. And Ish-bosheth said to Abner, ^(B)“Why have you gone in to my father's concubine?” ⁸ Then Abner was very angry over the words of Ish-bosheth and said, “Am I ^(C)a dog's head of Judah? To this day I keep showing steadfast love to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not given you into the hand of David. And yet you charge me today with a fault concerning a woman.

¹⁴ And David called to the army, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, “Will you not answer, Abner?” Then Abner answered, “Who are you who calls to the king?”

⁵⁵ As soon as Saul saw David go out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, ^(A)the commander of the army, “Abner, ^(B)whose son is this youth?” And Abner said, ^(C)“As your soul lives, O king, I do not know.”
